ZHENGZHOU, Sept. 20 (Xinhua) -- A senior official of the Communist Party of China (CPC) in charge of culture and publicity has pledged to deepen the nation's reform of its cultural sector over the next five years.More state-owned cultural institutions will be converted into enterprises as the nation builds a competition-based market for cultural products and services, Liu Yunshan, a Secretariat member of the CPC Central Committee and head of the Publicity Department of the CPC Central Committee, said Monday.Liu was speaking at a workshop on a blueprint for the country's cultural reforms and development for the "12th Five-Year Plan" (2011-2015), which was held in Luoyang in central China's Henan Province.In his speech, the official called for the mapping out of the goals and tasks of the country's cultural development in accordance with the requirements of the Scientific Outlook on Development."Cultural restructuring is fundamental for the emancipation of cultural productivity and the realization of cultural prosperity and development," he said.Other speakers at the meeting included Party officials responsible for local publicity work in the provinces of Henan, Hebei, Zhejiang, Jiangxi, Shandong, Guangdong, Yunnan, Shaanxi and Fujian, as well as the autonomous regions of Guangxi and Inner Mongolia.

HANOI, Oct. 29 (Xinhua) -- The cooperation among China, Japan and the Republic of Korea (ROK) is an important part of East Asian cooperation, and the correct direction of the tripartite cooperation should be firmly kept from a strategic perspective, Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao said Friday at a meeting of leaders of the three countries.The cooperation among China, Japan and the ROK, an important part of East Asian cooperation, has been developing soundly with the efforts of the three countries, Wen said when meeting with South Korean President Lee Myung-bak and Japanese Prime Minister Naoto Kan.The three countries should attach strategic importance to the cooperation among them and steer it in the right direction. BEIJING, Oct. 27 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Vice Premier Li Keqiang Wednesday called for accelerated public hospital reforms and the establishment of an essential medicine system to provide better health care.Li, who heads the State Council's leading group on health care reforms, made the remarks at a meeting in Beijing.The essential medicine system planned by the reforms will allow citizens to buy affordable, effective and safe medicines, Li said. BEIJING, Oct. 11 (Xinhua) -- China has kept a "generally stable" coal mine safety record in the first nine months of 2010, as the death toll caused by accidents remained almost flat over the same period last year, Zhao Tiechui, head of the State Administration of Coal Mine Safety (SACMS), said here Monday.From January to September, the nation's coal output reached 2.44 billion tonnes, up 17.2 percent, but accidents dropped 13.2 percent year on year, Zhao said.He did not give any actual numbers of coal mine accidents or deaths caused during period, but said the death ratio per million tons of coal output stood at 0.783 percent, down 13.9 percent over the same period last year.According to the SACMS's last publicized figures, deaths from coal mine accidents totaled 3,215 in China in 2008. In the January-September period of 2009, China recorded 591 fewer deaths from coal mine accidents, down by 23.8 percent from the 2008 level.Gas explosions, floods and fires inside coal mines were frequent occurrences during the first nine months, posing severe safety challenges to China's coal mine production, Zhao said.In a separate report by the State Administration of Work Safety in July this year, workplace accidents left 33,876 people dead in China during the first half of the year.
