A federal court in Washington, DC, has unsealed five search warrants that special counsel Robert Mueller obtained while investigating Michael Cohen, President Donald Trump's former lawyer and fixer.The newly unsealed documents show how Mueller had a judge's permission to follow the money from Russian sources to Trump's personal lawyer, and had reason to look into Cohen's extensive contacts with Russian government-linked individuals, some of which began on the day Trump won the presidency.The documents are from 2017, before Mueller referred the Cohen investigation to federal prosecutors in Manhattan, and generally show how Mueller was allowed to dive into Cohen's email accounts, including his Trump Organization email address.In a search warrant application from July 2017, prosecutors outlined how Cohen started communicating with a Russian-connected company on Election Day. Over the next year, there were more than 1,000 calls and text messages between Cohen and the CEO of that company, Columbus Nova.In the filing, Mueller's team made it clear that Cohen began contacting the company immediately after the election: "Telephone records show no such text messages or telephone calls between COHEN's cellular telephone and the CEO of Columbus Nova prior to November 8, 2016."Columbus Nova is an American company linked to Viktor Vekselberg, a prominent Russian oligarch. Gun violence claimed the lives of dozens of people across the country. At Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School, a shooting claimed the lives of 17. Ten were killed at Santa Fe High School in Texas, and 11 people were killed at a Pittsburgh synagogue. These events are just a few that sparked the familiar debate of gun violence in America. Mother Nature also left her mark on 2018. Strong hurricanes hit the Florida Panhandle and the Carolinas. Wildfires caused deadly damage in California. Notable people died in 2018. We lost icons like Senator John McCain, First Lady Barbara Bush and President George H.W. Bush. As for politics, it was heated and loud. New Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh faced allegations of sexual assault, dating back to his high school days. The Democrats took the house in the Midterms, but the Senate stayed with the GOP. A Florida sheriff's deputy who worked at a school for children with emotional and behavioral problems is facing a felony charge after video shows him slamming a female student to the ground after she tapped his knee with her foot.Broward County Deputy Willard Miller was charged Tuesday with felony child abuse without great bodily harm for the Sept. 25 altercation. Sheriff Gregory Tony suspended him without pay until internal disciplinary procedures are complete.School security video shows Miller standing and texting inside an office at Cross Creek School when the 15-year-old walks behind him and uses her left foot to push the back of his right knee, causing it to buckle. She walks away.In the silent video, Miller can be seen speaking to the girl for just over a minute from about 10 feet (3 meters) away while two women watch.He then suddenly walks toward the girl, grabs her throat and throws her to the ground.He flips her onto her stomach, puts a knee against her back and pulls her arms behind her.He then forcibly lifts her up using her pinned arms and throws her out of the room, where an investigator's report says she slammed against a wall.Tony would not say what Miller and the girl said to each other after the knee tap, but he said nothing the girl said or did justified the 38-year-old deputy's actions. Ron DeSantis, who accused Israel of bungling the response to the 2018 shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School that left 17 dead.The Florida Senate last month upheld Israel's removal, overriding the recommendation of its investigator who said Israel's conduct had not warranted suspension.The Broward school district said in a statement that district investigators notified the sheriff's office after learning of the altercation and "we appreciate the quick actions of the Sheriff's Office."The district said it is conducting its own investigation to ensure its policies and procedures were followed.It couldn't be determined if Miller has an attorney and he does not have a listed phone number.
