United Airlines is looking to add flights to their schedule in October, including resuming previously canceled trips and adding new ones.According to the airline, this will bring them up to flying 40 percent of their full schedule in October compared to October 2019. In September, they are only expecting to fly 34 percent of their full schedule.The news comes a week after the airline announced it will furlough more than 16,000 employees in October. That’s when federal bailout money from the federal government expires.The resumed flights include eight routes to Hawaii, “pending approval of the state’s pre-arrival COVID testing program.” Hawaii recently extended their out-of-state visitors ban to October 1. Once they allow visitors and tourists again, travelers must fill out a “safe travels” form and go through pandemic screening measures."We continue to be data-driven and realistic in our approach to rebuilding our network," Ankit Gupta, United's vice president of Domestic Network Planning said in a press release. "Because October is typically a slower month for leisure travel, we're adjusting our schedules to reflect these seasonal changes in customer demand while resuming service or adding capacity on routes where we're seeing increased customer demand for travel."Some of those “data-driven” decisions may have led United to realign their schedule to match “current demand for leisure travel.” The airline says in October they will add more flights on days popular with leisure travelers looking for a long weekend getaway, and will schedule fewer flights on days where demand is lower.Other changes and additions in October include:Resuming or starting new service on nearly 50 routes in the US; mostly from United’s hubs in Chicago, Denver and Houston.Resuming additional service to Florida and along the west coast.Resuming service to 14 international destinations, including parts of South America and Mexico.United was one of the airlines last week who announced they will be permanently eliminating change fees on flights within the US. (KGTV) — A highly controversial Valley Center horse rescue is being sued for millions of dollars and now faces eviction.According to the lawsuit filed by the property owner, the nonprofit owes more than ,000 in rent. The suit also alleges that the nonprofit “maliciously and abusively” destroyed parts of the ranch. 10News first reported on HiCaliber Horse Rescue in February when the founder was accused, in part, of raising thousands of dollars to rescue horses from slaughter before euthanizing them by gunshot. The nonprofit said that all the bad publicity hurt its fundraising, so it began shutting down in April. However, it still hasn’t left the property. A judgement has now been issued to evict the nonprofit.In the lawsuit, the property owner is asking for more than million to compensate for property damage and lost rent.10News reached out to both the founder of the rescue and the property owner. UNION CITY, Calif. (AP) — Two boys were fatally shot while sitting in a van outside an elementary school early Saturday morning, police said.The shootings of the boys, ages 11 and 14, took place in the parking lot of Searles Elementary School, the East Bay Times reported.Callers to 911 reported hearing gunfire at 1:26 a.m., the newspaper said. Authorities said that when officers arrived, they found the boys.The older boy died at the scene, and the younger child died en route to a trauma center, the Times reported.New Haven Unified School District Superintendent John Thompson said in a statement that the victims were minors.The boys attended schools in the district, Thompson and a district spokesman said.No arrests have been made in connection with the killings.Police Lt. Steve Mendez said there was no sign of a connection between the shooting and the school where it took place. People occasionally gather in the relatively secluded parking lot, Mendez told the Times.Thompson said the school district “will have support for our students and staff at the sites where these students attended when school resumes after the Thanksgiving break.”The district also will work with the Union City Police Department “to ensure that our schools are as safe as they can be,” he said.Police are investigating the possibility that an earlier shooting may be related to the slayings, the Times reported. VERO BEACH, Fla. -- For Crystal Smith, the midday heat in Florida isn't her biggest challenge. Living in a shelter, the single mom is trying to get back on her feet.She was one of the first people working at the "Dignity Food Truck" in Vero Beach."I've just been making food, certain dishes, just learning. (The organizers) give you on the job training and actually give you a job," said Smith.Set up by the Source, a Christian Ministry outreach in Vero Beach, it is a new program for the homeless and unemployed."What our students lack is real-time training in front of real customers. That's what Dignity Food Truck gives them. It gives them real exposure in real-time, made-to-order food," said Anthony Zorbaugh, the executive director of the Source.Chef Henry Restrepo said this is his most important mission in two decades of cooking."We train them for the culinary so they can get their life back," said Restrepo.Money raised goes back into the program.The truck was made possible by a 0,000 grant from the philanthropic group Impact 100."We love the mission. We love the project itself.
