SAN DIEGO (CNS) - The U.S. Small Business Administration is offering low-interest federal disaster loans for working capital to small businesses in San Diego and 34 other California counties that are economically impacted by the coronavirus pandemic.Small businesses, private nonprofit organizations of any size, small agricultural cooperatives and small aquaculture enterprises that have been financially impacted as a direct result of COVID-19 since Jan. 31 may qualify for Economic Injury Disaster Loans of up to million to help meet financial obligations and operating expenses which could have been met had the disaster not occurred, according to SBA Administrator Jovita Carranza."These loans may be used to pay fixed debts, payroll, accounts payable and other bills that can't be paid because of the disaster's impact. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A fire ripped through a Lakeside strip mall late Tuesday evening, but no injuries were reported.The fire broke out just after 11 p.m. in the 9700 block of Winter Gardens Blvd, near Woodside avenue.When firefighters arrived on scene the blaze spread to several businesses. Most of the damage was to the outside of the buildings but thick black smoke did get inside.By 11:30 p.m., the flames were knocked downNo injuries were immediately reported.The cause of the fire is under investigation. 518

The Marine Corps Community Services and Marine Corps Air Station Miramar created a special one-hour show titled, "2020 Vision – a Miramar Airshow production."The show features interviews with local civilian and military leaders, and performers who share their experiences about participating in the event. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — A Descanso woman whose power was cut during last week's Red Flag warning was surprised to receive a utility estimate showing an increase in power use.Cheryl Erpelding's power was taken away for parts of both Oct. 30 and Oct. 31, when SDG&E was trying to prevent a wildfire from igniting and spreading. Still, she got an estimate from SDG&E showing that she used the most power during the parts of those two days when the power was on. "If you're going to email me how much I'm using, why don't you email me a better guess," Erpelding said. RELATED: Homeowners with solar heated about SDG&E proposal to raise minimum billErpelding's weekly estimate showed she used 31 kilowatt hours on Oct. 31, and 26 kilowatt hours on Oct. 30. On other days of the week, her usage ranged from 16 to 24 kilowatt hours.SDG&E says the reason for this is Erpelding is a solar customer. The estimate she received reflects her net usage, which usually reflects credit for her putting power back into the grid. That reduces her net usage significantly. During the public safety power shutoffs, she did not put power back into the grid, but still used power during parts of the day it was on. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A developer is going back to the drawing board after a downtown agency blasted its affordable housing proposal Wednesday. Pinnacle planned to build a 58-unit low-income apartment complex at the corner of 11th and B. It would be attached to a 32-story market rate residential tower. While the buildings would be attached, they would have separate doors, no interior connections, and few shared amenities.Civic San Diego's board of directors rebuked the developer Wednesday. "You want to put us somewhere else," board member Robert Robinson said. "Are we not good enough to get on the top floor and look out at the ocean? That's what the message is here."David Dick, an attorney representing Pinnacle, said that was a misrepresentation of the intent. "It has to do with the realities of construction, cost financing, management and ownership," he said. Dick added that Pinnacle should be lauded for its willingness to fund much-needed affordable housing downtown, as opposed to paying an in-lieu fee that could take years to yield any units.
