ST JOSEPH, Mo. — A couple rushed to save a dog’s life after she was shot and left for dead in the woods.Jacob Carter, his fiance Robin Musser, and a few other family members were out hunting for mushrooms Thursday in the Bluffwoods Conservation Area just south of St. Joseph, Missouri.The group was just finishing up when they heard gunshots."We heard two gunshots, and we were coming on out anyway and stuff, getting ready to pack up and leave,” said Carter.Musser said the gunfire didn’t worry them since it’s common during turkey hunting season. "We'd seen a turkey earlier, thought maybe someone was shooting at the turkey,” she said.As they were driving out of the woods, something caught Musser’s eye."We were coming down the road and I spotted the dog and thought it was a puppy,” said Musser.Carter pulled over to go see if the dog was okay.As he walked closer he noticed it was an adult dog that wasn’t moving, and then he saw blood."That's when I noticed that she was shot, so I took my shirt off and started applying pressure,” said Carter.The white female pitbull had been shot twice, once in the back of the head and once through her ear. 1184

SPRING VALLEY, Calif (KGTV) -- As campuses like Steele Canyon High School in Spring Valley remain closed because of COVID-19 concerns, some parents and students say they’re getting tired of waiting because they want a return to the classroom and sports.“I want to play my sport again. I want to see my friends. I’m a freshman, I want to get that high school experience", says Mason Asvell a student at Steele Canyon High.He wants to play water polo again.Under the current state rules, youth sports can practice as long as they follow the COVID-19 guidelines.What they can’t do is play games, and that’s something Troy Mack doesn’t agree with, that’s why he organized this rally with others parents and students. Mack's daughter plays golf, and he believes the decision to allow games should be based on each individual sport.Mack adds, “I’m just stumped why we can’t make this golf work. There isn’t much of a distant sport than golf.”And this is where the CDC stands on this issue. On their website, it says the risk of a COVID-19 spread increases based on the number of people a participant interacts with, how close they physically are to others, and if they share equipment with multiple players.A spokesperson for the county has said they are looking to the state to provide guidance when it comes to reopening youth sports, which some students say is a waiting game they don’t want to play.Student Kailyn DeGuzman says, “Our mental health is being drained and will continue to be drained if we don’t go back to in person and in school.”And until something changes, the parents ABC 10News spoke with say they’ll continue to find ways to make their voices heard. 1675

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. — Running a 5K can be challenging as it is, but imagine doing it while living with cerebral palsy. That’s what one 11-year-old is trying to accomplish.Fred Ginman may not have the legs of an athlete, but he certainly has the heart."That’s the message I think Fred has to everyone, 'don’t stop even though we are under coronavirus times,'" said mother Isabella Amaral.Fred is on day three of a 10-day 5K. The goal is 10 laps a day, or 500 meters, around the Ronald McDonald House Charities of Tampa Bay courtyard."The physical therapy we do here it's very modern, very sophisticated, and it's giving Fred hope," said Amaral.Fred and his mom are from Brazil. They have spent more than 600 nights at the Ronald McDonald House Charities of Tampa Bay since 2012, as Fred receives treatment for cerebral palsy. The goal is to one day walk on his own."That's our dream, that's our goal, that's what we envision every night, we envision walking freely on the beach," said Amaral.The family said Ronald McDonald House has been there for them every step of the way and now they want to return the favor. All money raised in support of Fred's Fun Run will go back to helping families like their own."Because since the beginning the Ronald McDonald House has embraced our mission to get Fred walking freely," said Amaral.Ronald McDonald House acknowledges its been a tough year. Their costs have increased while their funding has decreased during the pandemic. They appreciate Fred and Isabella’s desire to give back."And that’s just been really special and heartwarming for us," said Joe Citro, of Ronald McDonald House Charities of Tampa Bay. SOLANA BEACH (CNS) - A man was arrested Thursday after entering a North County bank, telling everyone inside to get on the floor, announcing that he was robbing the premises and directing workers to make a 911 call to report the crime-in-process. The odd robbery scare at the Wells Fargo branch office in the 200 block of Santa Helena in Solana Beach began just after 9 a.m., according to sheriff's officials. The perpetrator -- a thin, roughly 6-foot man who appeared to be in his 30s, wearing a black hooded jacket with the cowl pulled up over his head -- entered the bank minutes after it opened and promptly made his series of demands, Lt. Karla Menzies said. He issued no threats of violence and displayed no weapons during the takeover, the lieutenant said. When deputies arrived a short time later, they found the self-described robber inside with his hands in the air, Menzies said. The man, whose name was not immediately available, surrendered without incident and was taken to Vista Detention Center to be booked on suspicion of attempted robbery. The motivation for the suspect's actions was unclear. ``(Deputies) think that there were some mental-health issues (involved),'' Menzies said. 1209
