SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Hiring is increasing in San Diego County with local employers adding jobs in all industries, the San Diego Workforce Partnership reported. The most recent U.S. Bureau of Labor statistics show unemployment dropped to 3 percent in April, as San Diego County gained 7,800 jobs month-over-month. The largest increase was posted in the construction field, with 2,200 jobs added. The boom was likely due to improving weather in April after an unusually rainy winter, experts said. Other growing industries included Education and Health, and Professional and Business, which added 1,000 jobs. The Government and Leisure and Hospitality fields each grew by 900 jobs. The smallest growth was reported in the Information field, with 100 jobs added in April. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- During this COVID-19 pandemic, many unsung heroes have stepped up to offer assistance in this critical time of need. And that includes a local pilot, who helping those workers, that help him to get off the ground. Anthony Oshinuga became interested in becoming a pilot when he was 5-years old, and now he's a veteran of the air. Anthony's need for speed and adrenaline led him to racing and performing aerobatics. But he calls his latest piloting adventure, his most rewarding. Flying his own biplane, he traveled across in the country for a campaign he calls, "Reach for the sky...we've got the ground"."Essentially, what that means, is for the support crew that is on the ground at each airport we visited. We delivered a COVID-19 relief package that had face masks, hand sanitizer, and then we gave them a mug to say thank you. We appreciate what you are doing."It was quite a trip for the Valley Center resident, as his flight included 44 stops in 22 locations."My sponsor, Epic Fuel,s, put together this campaign that covered six thousand nautical miles, in my biplane, traveling about 160 miles per hour, " says Anthony. His trip was about giving thanks to airport employees."We have people at the airport, like the guys who fuel the trucks, and those workers who greet people coming off private jets. There are interactions and contact with these people all the time, and we don't think about that."And along his journey, he was able to visit with young kids, and maybe inspire them to become pilots one day. "There were a few stops along the way where people got word of me stopping in. A bunch of kids came out that were S.T.E.M motivated. They were students going through the engineering program, and I got the opportunity to meet them and speak to them, and just to inspire them."It was definitely a trip of a lifetime."Flown six thousand miles with that message, and making it out pretty good right." 1942

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Frustrated business owners in the Midway District say an old strip club was a better neighbor than the current property owner, which happens to be a church. The Rock Church bought the strip club, formerly known as The Body Shop, in August of 2018. Now, businesses say nothing has changed except there’s now more trash and drugs. Neighbors say they want the church to clean it up. Noor Shamoon comes to work at Navis Pack and Shop to a very unwelcome sight. “Food, trash feces on wall, on our vehicles.”He says it’s a foul odor and claims people who hang out in the area vandalized the businesses work truck. Employees at the Midas muffler business across the street also say trash and loitering have become huge problems. “We're trying to run a business and it's hard when you have that across the street,” said Gary Stricker. People who work in the area say prostitution is rampant as are drugs. One man reportedly overdosed recently. “I think he maybe shot up some kind of drug or something. We were concerned about him so we called an ambulance,” Stricker said. When The Rock Church dropped the banner over the “nude girls” sign at the former strip club, they promised to clean up the neighborhood. Since the church purchased the property for .3 million, they haven’t touched it. "I hope they do something about that to clean the place up you know,” Stricker said. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Federal indictments were unsealed Thursday charging 75 people nationwide, 40 in San Diego, with involvement in an international money-laundering scheme.Prosecutors said those charged have been involved with crimes ranging from drug distribution to money laundering.Investigators seized more than million, 95 kilograms of methamphetamine, 63 kilograms of heroin, 10 kilograms of fentanyl, 92 kilograms of cocaine, 252 kilograms of marijuana, and 20 firearms, including semiautomatic assault rifles and handguns.RELATED: Ex-MLB pitcher Esteban Loaiza now faces federal drug charge"We have siphoned the cash and the life out of a San Diego-based international money laundering organization with ties to the Sinaloa Cartel," U.S. Attorney Adam Braverman said. "By following the money, we have discovered large quantities of fentanyl, heroin and methamphetamine that are no longer destined for the streets of America."According to the indictments, Jose Roberto Lopez-Albarran, described as a "significant" broker for a Mexican-based international money laundering group, laundered tens of millions of dollars in drug money from the U.S. to Mexico between 2015 and 2018.Lopez-Albarran, who was arrested in San Diego on Feb. 9 and remains in custody, reportedly oversaw a network of co-conspirators to assist in transferring the millions to drug suppliers across the border, including individuals working for the Sinaloa Cartel.RELATED: Alleged drug dealer charged in Camp Pendleton Marine's overdose death"Taking on and stopping transnational criminal organizations requires dedication and sacrifice," District Attorney Summer Stephan said. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Feeling overwhelmed by bills? 10News is exploring solutions for making it in San Diego and found there may be a way around the mountain of debt.A recent study by Lendedu suggests companies are open to allowing consumers to negotiate their bills. Using data provided by the company Truebill, Lendedu analyzed which companies tend to be more generous in negotiating with customers.Satellite service providers were analyzed in the report. Customers of SiriusXM had the highest success rate in negotiations, according to Lendedu. Consumers had negotiation success rates in the 80s with three other companies, Suddenlink, Centurylink, and Dish Network, the report showed.The study went on to note, “When it came to how much companies actually knocked off the average customer’s bill, SiriusXM once again led the way; the average SiriusXM customer was able to decrease that monthly charge by 40 percent or more. Immediately behind SiriusXM was CenturyLink, ADT Security, and DirectTV, who all fell into the 25 to 29 percent range in terms of the percentage the bill was decreased by post-negotiations.”RELATED: Making it in San Diego: How to deal with large medical bills"They're looking at who you are as a consumer," said Steven Osinski, a sales and direct marketing professor at San Diego State University. Osinski says the way businesses make their money, especially when it comes to services, is through recurring revenue.
