China has made great efforts to upgrade its manufacturing industry into a more intelligent one. In 2015, the country put forward the "Made in China 2025" initiative, which seeks to transform itself from a manufacturing giant into a global high-tech manufacturing power.
China has imposed a seasonal fishing ban on the Yangtze River, China's longest, since 2002. The ban has been extended to four months yearly since 2016, covering its main river and major branches and lakes connected to it. Similar bans are also carried out in other major rivers such as the Huaihe and the Pearl.
China has accelerated the pace this year of removing administrative controls and lowering the threshold for market access.
China has also been innovative in urban transformation. This is aimed at optimising urban functions and promoting industrial upgrading. Take for example the relocation of non-capital functions out of Beijing. This will stimulate coordination between the Capital and nearby Tianjin Municipality and Hebei Province in the development of the triangular region called the Xiong'an New Area. It is the latest example of coordinated, balanced and sustainable regional development driven by innovation and aiming at high-quality growth.
China became the world's second largest overseas investor with 3.04 billion of outbound direct investment (ODI) in 2018, second only to Japan with 3.16, a report said on Thursday.
