SAN DIEGO (CNS) - Authorities asked the public to keep an eye out for a missing Lemon Grove teenager with a history of running away from home.The last known sighting of Alonna Wintland, 15, was on July 31, when she left her home in the 8000 block of Lemon Grove Way in a car driven by an unidentified man, according to sheriff's officials.At the time, Alonna, who did not take her cellphone or debit card with her when she disappeared, was wearing beige shorts, a white shirt and sandals. Her whereabout since have been unknown.Alonna is white, 5 feet, 2 inches tall and weighs about 235 pounds. She has blue eyes and blond hair, which recently has had purple-dyed highlights.Anyone spotting a girl matching her description is asked to call the San Diego County Sheriff's Department at 858-565-5200. 807

SAN DIEGO (CNS) - Father Joe's Villages announced Friday that it has established an emergency fund to raise money for the homeless during the COVID- 19 crisis. With its thrift and donation stores shuttered, and donation pick-ups and drop-offs on hiatus as part of the shelter's efforts to reduce the risk of spreading the virus to clients and staff, Father Joe's representatives say the new fund will be crucial to continue to provide shelter, health care, food, showers and laundry for those in need. Qualcomm co-founder Franklin Antonio has provided a 0,000 matching gift challenge in an effort to encourage monetary support from the community, Father Joe's Villages said. Gavin Newsom reversed a parole board's decision to release a 59-year-old man who was a teenage gang member when he killed a San Diego police officer in 1978, the San Diego County District Attorney's Office announced Tuesday.Jesus Cecena was convicted of killing Officer Archie Buggs, 30, who was shot four times after he stopped a car driven by Cecena in the Skyline neighborhood.Cecena, then 17, fired five times at Buggs, then paused, walked toward the fallen officer and fired a final bullet into his head at point-blank range.Cecena, who is serving a life sentence, was granted parole in June, a decision that was heavily criticized by the San Diego County District Attorney's Office.Newsom reversed the parole board's decision on Monday, marking the second time he has reversed a parole grant for Cecena. Former Gov. Jerry Brown also reversed parole grants for Cecena in 2014, 2016 and 2017.Newsom cited Cecena's gang motivations as a major factor in his decision."Mr. Cecena still is unwilling to acknowledge the underlying or causative factors that are in evidence, specifically that he belonged to a gang where killing a peace officer was seen as an ultimate goal, that a more senior and respected gang member handed him a firearm so he could kill Officer Buggs, and that killing Officer Buggs was a way for Mr. Cecena to gain more respect and power within his gang," Newsom wrote. SAN DIEGO (CNS) - Drug use among teens booked into San Diego Juvenile Hall reached its highest rate since 2000, with 62% of those interviewed testing positive for an illicit substance last year, up 4% from the previous year, according to a report released Monday.According to the San Diego Association of Governments, 57% of 109 juveniles interviewed in 2019 tested positive for marijuana, also the highest rate since 2000 and an increase of 2% compared to 2018.Ninety-two percent of interviewees reported trying marijuana, compared to 86% for alcohol and 70% for tobacco, according to the SANDAG report. Overall, 93% of juveniles reported trying some kind of illicit substance.Nearly 60% of respondents also said marijuana was the first substance they had tried, compared to 27% for alcohol and 12% for tobacco.Overall, those who had used marijuana, alcohol and tobacco reported getting started at or before age 13 1/2, on average.Just over three-quarters of the youth interviewees reported having tried vaping, and 49% reported vaping at school. The most commonly used substances were flavored nicotine, 90%, marijuana/THC, 73%, and non-flavored nicotine, 26%.When asked to rank how harmful they thought specific drugs were on a four-point scale, 17% of respondents said marijuana was "very bad" or "extremely bad"; 58% thought tobacco was "very bad" or "extremely bad" and 37% said alcohol belonged in those categories.Nearly 60% reported that they did not view vaping as harmful and 39% thought vaping was less harmful than smoking cigarettes.Among other findings:-- 91% of those interviewed said it was easy, or very easy, to obtain marijuana; 79% of those interviewed said the same about alcohol and 93% said the same of tobacco-- 42% reported abusing prescription or over-the-counter drugs, with 81% of those reporting that they had used tranquilizers, such as Xanax, and 50% saying they had tried codeine-- 50% reported prescription drugs were "very easy" or "easy" to obtain, down from 70% in 2017-- 11% of interviewees tested positive for methamphetamine, up from 10% in 2018 2093
