(KGTV) - An Uber driver says she was physically assaulted by a passenger Sunday night in La Mesa after a dispute over a mask."This is definitely the most insane experience driving with Uber that I've ever had," said Tia.Just past 6 p.m. Sunday, Tia, who first started driving for Uber last summer, arrived for a pickup outside the Echo Pointe apartments.Tia says a man and the passenger's sister ushered the passenger into the car with a warning for Tia: the passenger was drunk."She didn't have a mask on ... so I asked her if she could please put on a spare mask, which I had in the back seat. Took her awhile to put it on, but she did," said Tia.As the ride got started, Tia says her passenger wouldn't let it go."She said in a very snarky tone, 'Are you more comfortable now that I have a mask on?' She was very drunk, very belligerent, yelling," said Tia.Tia say she decided to end the ride."I was fed up with the disrespect," said Tia.Tia says she returned to the pickup spot and asked her to get out repeatedly, but the woman refused. Tia recorded some of it on her phone. Tia, who eventually called 911, says when she got out of the car and reached in to remove the woman's belongings, the passenger grabbed her neck from behind.According to Tia, the passenger became violent, chasing her around the car for several minutes, at one point hitting in the right eye. Tia says the passenger's sister and the man came out and subdued the woman, allowing Tia to drive away, and meet police and file a report."I was dumbfounded. I couldn’t believe I was assaulted for essentially wearing a mask ... People need to treat each other with respect. Wear a mask ... We're just trying to keep everybody safe," said Tia.Tia says she's still feeling pain in her eye but she's feeling better. She's hoping an arrest is made so a message is sent: this behavior is not acceptable.A La Mesa Police spokesperson says they are awaiting the report to be turned in by the officer before it is assigned to an investigator. 2030

(KGTV) - Students in a UC San Diego computer science course are still trying to understand why someone put a racial slur in their study guide dozens of times.The CSE 134B midterm study guide was a collaborative effort among the students. Only those in the class had access to it and could edit it anonymously.The night before the exam, students like Raymond Arevalo were shocked to see the n-word in it 85 times."I got on the study guide and saw the instance of the n-word, and then I noticed another instance," said Arevalo. "I was really shocked and kind of mad because this wasn't the first time this has happened before in other classes I've been."Arevalo says he has experienced a negative culture in the computer science program at the school. He says far too often minorities and women are targeted in the male-dominated field.He shared images of the defaced midterm online, hoping to raise awareness of the problems he believes exist."People continue to do these things knowing that they won't get in trouble, and it's like a small joke to them, if the person were to get in trouble that would be nice," said Arevalo.The story was first reported in The Triton, an independent, student-run news source. (KGTV) — A 5.0-magnitude earthquake was reported just outside Ridgecrest, Calif., Thursday.The quake struck about 25 miles north of Ridgecrest, Calif., just before 2 p.m. The earthquake had a depth of about one and a half miles deep, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.According to the USGS' "Did You Feel It?" map, shaking could be felt from as far away as San Diego and Coronado. Responses were also reported from Las Vegas, Nev., the map showed.No injuries or damages to structures were immediately reported.Ridegcrest was hit by a 7.1-magnitude earthquake on July 5. Several aftershocks and earthquakes have been recorded in the region during the month following the massive shakeup. 720

(KGTV) — A local favorite among beer fans, Amplified Ale Works is expanding its brews eastward.The brewery announced plans to open a production facility in Lemon Grove, inside the historic Sonka Brothers general store building at 3308 Main St., most recently occupied by Lemon Grove Bakery.“We’re looking to open up to our fans, the craft beer community, local music supporters, and Lemon Grove residents the opportunity to have a true investment in a business they can also have an emotional investment in,” Alex Pierson, owner of Amplified Ale Works, said in a release.RELATED: Craft beer scene brewing in Chula VistaAmplified says the facility will have the capacity to brew up to 10,000 barrels annually, which about five times its current production level. LAKESIDE (CNS) - A pedestrian was struck and killed Friday by a bus in the unincorporated community of Lakeside, near Santee.The crash was reported at 5:45 p.m. at 12250 Woodside Ave., according to the California Highway Patrol.Firefighters worked to save the pedestrian's life.
