CHULA VISTA, Calif (KGTV) -- A Chula Vista Police officer stabbed while on duty will be awarded the Congressional Badge of Bravery. On July 27, Officer David Sachs will be awarded the badge by United States Attorney for the Southern District of California Robert Brewer. The award, created in 2008, honors exceptional acts of bravery in the line of duty. On September 19 of 2017, Officer Sachs along with Officer Leo Banales and Chaplain Wes Anderson responded to a home on Monterey Avenue after receiving a report that a man’s neighbor threw a large piece of concrete over his fence, injuring the victim.RELATED: Chula Vista Police officer who shot man recovering from stabbing When officers arrived, the victim pointed out the suspect’s house. After knocking on the door, the suspect’s mother answered and invited the officers in.Police say, though they didn’t know at the time, the suspect, described as a 6-foot-tall man in his late 20s, was suffering from emotional or psychological distress.After stepping into the home’s kitchen, the suspect started attacking Sachs with a knife, stabbing him multiple times in the face, head and arm.Police say Sachs was able to knock the suspect to the ground while yelling “Knife! Knife! Knife!” to his partners.The suspect then lunged at Banales with a knife before he and Anderson went outside. According to police, Sachs drew his weapon and told the suspect to drop the knife before the suspect blocked the exit and attacked him again with the knife.RELATED: Officer stabbed, suspect shot three times in Chula Vista Police say Sachs then moved the suspect’s mother behind him for safety and shot the suspect. The suspect collapsed in the dining room after being struck.After hearing the shots, Anderson went back to the home’s front door to help. After more officers arrived, medical aid was given to the hospital who was taken to the hospital where he later died.Sachs was stabbed six times. Following seven months of recovery, he returned to full-duty and is still serving today.In May of 2018, Sachs was awarded a Medal of Valor and Purple Heart by the Chula Vista Police Department. 2141

(KGTV) - A South Bay mom says the dinner she ordered using a food delivery app never arrived, and the driver couldn't be tracked down."It was my second time using the app," said Melissa Stone.Last Sunday, when Stone's kids had a craving for burgers and fries, she signed into her Grubhub app and ordered an early dinner from Bull Chicks in Chula Vista. An hour passed, but there was no food."Went onto the app, checked the delivery status, and it said it was delivered," said Stone.Confused, she checked her front door but didn't see any deliveries. She called the restaurant. An employee told her her food had been picked up by the driver 15 minutes earlier. She asked for the driver's information and got a woman's name and number. Stone says she tried to contact the driver, but the number was disconnected."I'm upset and hangry at this point," said Stone.She says when complained to Grubhub, they didn't have any answers but gave her a refund."I think somebody was hungry, took my food and ate it," said Stone.Melissa posted the incident on Facebook and got several responses from local Grubhub customers with similar stories, including one involving a male driver who reportedly picked up the food but didn't deliver it."They never received their food," said Stone.And they may not be alone. According to a 2019 survey by US Foods, nearly 30% of drivers with food delivery apps, admit to snacking or stealing the food they're responsible for delivering. CINCINNATI -- A fire at the Cincinnati Zoo and Botanical Garden Monday evening summoned 40 firefighters and caused ,000 in damage but did not harm any humans or animals, according to District Fire Chief Randal Freel.The fire started in a restaurant food smoker around 5:25 p.m., Freel said. CHULA VISTA (KGTV) -- Chula Vista police investigators are searching for clues in the fatal shooting of a 52-year-old man early Saturday morning.Officers responded to a report of gunshots at around 5:08 a.m. in the 900 block of Agua Tibia Avenue, a few blocks west of Cook Elementary School.A witness led officers to a residence where gunshots were believed to have originated, according to CVPD Lt. Dan Peak.Peak said when officers entered the home, they discovered the victim on the ground with a gunshot wound."Officers attempted life saving measures on the subject and despite resuscitation efforts, he was pronounced deceased at the scene," said Peak.The victim has been identified as Dean Tinsley. No further information about the victim was released.Peak said there is no known motive for the slaying at this time. CHULA VISTA (KGTV) - Chula Vista police are searching for a possible arsonist after two brush fires burned part of Otay river bottom Friday afternoon. Fire crews responded around 2 in the afternoon to the area south of Main Street and east of Broadway. While crews were working to put out the fire, they received a call of a second fire in the same location. The second fire presented more difficulties because of its location. Batallion Chief David Albright tells 10News, "it was kind of down in the slough, in the river bottom, so we were able to bring in a helicopter and make some water drops". Multiple water drops were made and fire crews had both fires out within an hour. Chula Vista police are continuing their search for a possible arsonist. They believe there could be a connection to one of the homeless individuals living near the Otay River bottom. San Diego County sheriffs also sent up their helicopter to look for a suspect in the brush but were unsuccessful. 985
