SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - After 27 years, Mysterious Galaxy, a popular sci-fi bookstore in the Clairemont area, may have to close its doors.In a post on the store's website, the owners say they are looking for a buyer to take over the store on Balboa Avenue and move it, as their lease expires in 60 days. "It is with heavy hearts that we share that unless a new buyer and new location are found immediately, Mysterious Galaxy will be forced to close its doors," reads the post.Manager Kelly Orazi says it's "devastating" to see the store shut down.RELATED: Sears, Kmart stores slated for closure in months ahead, company says"We're a hub for people who love books," she says. "(People) Who love reading, who love writing. It's really something special."If it closes, Mysterious Galaxy will join a handful of other small, locally-owned bookstores to close recently in San Diego.In 2018, Villainous Lair shut its doors, as did the Adams Avenue Bookstore. Experts say it's because shoppers are looking for a more personal, intimate experience than what they can get online or at a major retail chain.That's what Diesel Bookstore is hoping to capitalize on. That store just opened at the end of October in the Del Mar Highlands mall."We offer bestsellers, but we also offer a curated selection of books in every subject manner," says Manager Iris Halperin. "People want an experience that's different, that's fun, that's unique. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A San Diego program has received a state grant to train law enforcement officers across California.The program, Game Changer, was founded in 2016 by Sean Sheppard after he saw large protests break out across the country against police brutality.His idea was simple. He would bring members of the public together with law enforcement officers over a sports game."To get some human bonding time," explains Sheppard. "Because that rarely takes place between law enforcement and the general public."Before, they would talk for a few hours about what issues they saw between police and the communities they serve. After, they would get to socialize at the game.Since 2016, Game Changer has hosted 60 events and continues to grow.The Game Changer model was just awarded a 2-year, 0,000 grant from the California Commission on Peace Officer Standards and Training.Once the program is accredited, law enforcement personnel who complete a Game Changer event can put it toward their required training credit hours.Members of the public are needed too. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A serial flasher who exposed himself to seven women near University of California San Diego was sentenced Thursday, according to City Attorney Mara Elliott. Nicholas Saienni, 34, pleaded guilty to four misdemeanor charges of indecent exposure and received a sentence of 180 days of custody, three years of probation, a waiver of his Fourth Amendment search and seizure rights, and court fines and fees. He was also ordered to register as a sex offender and get counseling. If he violates his probation, he could face an additional year and a half in jail, according to prosecutors. San Diego Police arrested Saienni after eight separate incidents between January and March 2019. Prosecutors said Saienni exposed himself to the women while dressed as a jogger and wearing a hooded sweatshirt to conceal his identity. Saienni confessed to the indecent exposure and admitted he had been convicted of similar acts in Delaware in 2018, Elliott reported. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — A woman died Friday morning after she was hit by a vehicle while walking in a Mira Mesa crosswalk.The victim, who has yet to be identified, was crossing the 9200 block of Capricorn Way in a crosswalk at about 9:45 a.m. when she was hit by a vehicle, San Diego Police said. The woman, believed to be in her 40s, died at the scene.Police later found the driver, a 31-year-old man, and his vehicle, a black 2004 Nissan Titan. Police said the driver was making a right turn from Black Mountain Rd. onto Capricorn Wy. when he fatally struck the woman with his vehicle. SDPD did not say if any arrests have been made. Traffic Division Officers were still investigating the incident Friday afternoon. 720
