SAN DIEGO (KGTV): Wall Street set a record last week for the longest "Bull" run in US Stock Market history, topping 3,400 days of growth. Now, financial experts are saying it won't last forever and advising clients to prepare for a downturn."You have to expect at some point, we're due," says Dennis Brewster of SagePoint Financial. "I think everybody's almost forgotten, look at earlier in the year, how sharp the markets broke back in February. So it wouldn't be unusual to see any of those declines coming up later this year or early next year."Brewster says he doesn't expect anything as drastic as 2008, but he still says investors should take a few steps to safeguard their earnings and even make the downturn work in your favor.A lot of it, he says, depends on how close you are to retirement."When you look at the year to year returns, they're all over the board. When you look at the 20-30 year returns they're very close," says Brewster. "If you're younger and have 20-30 year horizons, the day to day gyrations are almost noise to you. But if you're getting closer to retirement or in retirement, then you have to be more careful."'Brewster looked up numbers from the S&P 500 for the last 20 years. He says someone who invested ,000 in 1998 would have lost about ,300 after the crash in 2008. But if they kept their money in until 2018, that same ,000 investment would now be worth more than ,000.He says older investors should be more conservative with their portfolios. Younger investors should increase how much they invest if the market falls, to take advantage of lower prices. As for when the correction could come, Brewster says it's too tough to predict. But he says to watch out for "triggering" events that could rattle the market, some of which may already be happening. Things like trade wars or the Federal Reserve spiking interest rates could be the kind of thing to end the Bull Run."It always goes higher than you think and lower than you think," he says. "You can't ignore it, and you try not to get swallowed by it." 2072

San Diego (KGTV)- Heart- pounding moments for visitors at the San Diego Zoo Safari Park. Powerful gusts tossed riders on the Balloon Safari from side to side. Riders on the balloon held on tight during the gusty landing. “There were some points where the basket was almost tipped completely sideways,” says Jordan Lapidot, who was visiting the park with her family yesterday afternoon. “I have this image in my mind of this guy, and he’s grabbing the outside of the cage as they get just thrown.”The San Diego Zoo Safari Park says the balloon has a long cable in the middle of the cage that safely brings it down from the sky. That cable never broke during the windy ride. “They were trying to get it down as quickly as possible,” says Lapidot. The Safari Park tells 10News if the wind reads over 29 miles per hour they will shut the ride down. They sent us a statement about the incident, saying in part: “As the sudden storm arrived and winds picked up, some operations at the Park, like Balloon Safari and Flightline were closed to public use.”No one was hurt while on the ride. 1090

SAN DIEGO (KGTV)- COVID-19 is causing some changes for voters in San Diego county. Your usual polling location may not be active for the November elections.“Because of the pandemic, it has created a level of uncertainty in our universe,” says Registrar of Voter Michael Vu.Vu says to ensure physical distancing the county has consolidated the 1,600 small voting precincts into 235 super poll locations for voters to cast their ballots.“We just want to make sure everyone does it in a safe and healthy way.”Vu says they will be expanding the technology at each site with the ballot marking machines introduced during the primary elections back in March.“There will be, on average, 7 of those ballot marking devices per super polls location,” says Vu. “But we will also be having a number of voting booths because we will have pre-printed paper ballots for voters.”To help with social distancing and the influx of voters, there will be seven different check-in stations at each site to move people along. On Thursday, the Registrar of Voters office will be sending out sample ballots and voter information pamphlets. Those packets will contain each voter’s designated super poll location. The super poll locations will be open for voting starting October 31st.Michael Vu says the mail-in ballots will be sent out on October 5th. 1332

SAN DIEGO, Calif, (KGTV) - An information meeting Thursday evening is one of the final steps before plans to expand the Miramar Landfill are sent to the state. Currently, the landfill is expected to close Sept. of 2025, but this new plans will extend that to an estimated closure of Nov. of 2031, and also increase the height of the landfill by a maximum of 25 feet. Program Manager for the Solid Waste Local Enforcement Agency Bill Prinz said these dates could change depending on how quickly trash is put into the landfill. He also said this increase in capacity means about 10 million cubic yards of trash are being added to the already about 87 million cubic yards. Currently, 87,760,000 cubic yards of Gross Airspace are being used, and the plan will bring the maximum height to 97,354,7355 cubic yards of Gross Airspace. The meeting Thursday, May 28 is from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. and will be information focused. The public can tune in virtually to listen, ask questions and offer feedback, however no decisions will be made. Prinz said the LEA will send the plans, including the feedback from the meeting, to Sacramento, and the state will have 60 days to either accept or deny the plan. He said he does not expect them to deny it.The attend the meeting, click here: https://bit.ly/may10meeting 1307

SAN DIEGO, Calif. (KGTV) -- Health officials in San Diego are warning people to avoid water contact at all coastal beaches and bays amid rain sweeping through Southern California. The San Diego County Department of Environmental Health issued the general rain advisory Thursday afternoon. According to the department, the urban runoff caused by the rain can cause bacteria levels to spike significantly in ocean and bay water, especially near storm drains, creeks, rivers and lagoon outlets. RELATED: Check today's forecastThe runoff could contain bacteria from animal waste, soil and decomposing vegetation. The department says water contact such as swimming, surfing and diving should be avoided during rain and for 72 hours after the rain stops. A beach closure will also remain in place for the shoreline of Tijuana Slough National Wildlife Refuge and Border Field State Park due to sewage-contaminated flows from the Tijuana River. The water contact closure includes all beaches from the south end of Seacoast Drive to the international border. 1058
