This is why China needs strong and long-lasting peace," he said.Berger said China's policy of peaceful development has already won support from the majority of countries, so they are willing to cooperate with the world's most powerful developing nation."China's peaceful development gives chance to all people in the world, as China became the main engine of the global economic development. Many developed countries are gravitated to China because they depend on Chinese supplies and the Chinese market," Berger said.However, although some countries are aware that China's sustainable growth requires peace and stability, some eye China's growing influence as negative, the professor said.Berger said that Beijing tries to persuade Washington that China's rise does not threaten American security. The question, then, is to what degree is the U.S. ready to accept the new reality, Berger said.Berger cited two main reasons why some Western politicians don't trust Beijing."First, this is a natural response from the people who got used to a certain world order," he said, "Such an order implies the existence of the so-called 'golden billion' people who have access to all of civilization's benefits while the other five billion can't make ends meet."Berger said that when China attempts to achieve the same living standards, that induces some fears based on the notion that the Earth resources are limited.Berger believed the second reason is xenophobia and racism, which generates talk about the "Chinese threat.""But they talked about the 'China threat' even in times when China used to be an underdeveloped nation," Berger noted.

SAN FRANCISCO, March 29 (Xinhua) -- Computer networking equipment giant Cisco Systems Inc. on Tuesday announced the intent to buy privately-held software company newScale Inc., in a move to complement and expand its offerings in cloud computing.Based in San Mateo in the U.S. state of California, newScale provides software that delivers a service catalog and self-service portal for information technology (IT) organizations to select and quickly deploy cloud services within their businesses.Founded in 1999, the company now has more than two million users worldwide, including 20 percent of the Fortune 50 companies, according to information posted on newScale's website."With the acquisition of newScale, Cisco will be able to accelerate the deployment of cloud services through a service catalog and self-service portal that allows customers to easily manage their IT infrastructures," Parvesh Sethi, Cisco's senior vice president, noted in a statement.Cisco said it expects to close the deal in the second half of its fiscal year 2011, without disclosing financial terms.

We think that is the voice of the Zimbabwean people and that is also the view of all the parties concerned here in Zimbabwe," Yang said, adding that no country has a right to dictate to another."We believe all nations should respect each others sovereignty and territorial integrity," he said."China believes that Africans have the right to choose their own way of development as they are the masters of the African continent. All others are just guests," he said.Yang said that China appreciates assistance from Africa and would also continue to reciprocate the support.Addressing the Chinese delegation earlier, Zimbabwean President Mugabe said the West continues to persecute Zimbabwe through sanctions for the decision the county took to empower its people through land.He said the imposition of sanctions was despite the fact that Zimbabwe and Britain had agreed that the former would redistribute the land while the latter would compensate affected farmers."The Western countries have imposed sanctions on us for taking our land although we had discussed this in 1979. BEIJING, May 24 (Xinhuanet) -- Scientists revealed for the first time the molecular structure of proteins, which enables bacteria to transfer electrical charges, according to a new study. The revelation was published in Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences in the U.S. on Monday.Scientists used a technique called "x-ray crystallography" to reveal the molecular structure of proteins, which work as atom-sized "wires" discharging excess electricity."This is an exciting advance in our understanding of how some bacterial species move electrons from the inside to the outside of a cell," said lead author Tom Clarke of the University of East Anglia's School of Biological Sciences in Norwich, England.He said this discovery means "We can now start developing efficient 'bio-batteries' as the viable energy source in the future."Still, it could take perhaps a decade to go. Before that, existing uses of such bacteria needed to become 100 or 1,000 times more efficient, he said.The advance could also hasten the development of microbe technology that can help clean up oil or uranium pollution, he said.Microbes might in future be enlisted to clean up nuclear accidents such as Japan's Fukushima Daiichi disaster, he added.
