SILVER SPRING, Md. (AP) — Uber finally got its food delivery company, acquiring Postmates in a .65 billion all-stock deal, the ride-hailing giant has confirmed. The deal helps Uber and its Ubereats food-delivery division pick up some ground against industry leader DoorDash, which controls about 37% of the U.S. food delivery market. That’s compared with Uber Eats’ 20% share before the Postmates deal. Grubhub holds around 30%.Last month, Uber lost out in a bid for Grubhub, which would have made it the dominant U.S. food-delivery service. But Amsterdam-based Just Eat Takeaway.com ended up nabbing Chicago-based Grubhub in a .3 billion deal.Uber writes in a press release that Postmates is highly complementary to Uber Eats, with differentiated geographic focus areas and customer demographics.Uber says consumers will benefit from expanded choice across a wider range of restaurants and other merchants, and delivery people will enjoy more opportunities to earn income, with increased batching of orders to make better use of their time.“Uber and Postmates have long shared a belief that platforms like ours can power much more than just food delivery—they can be a hugely important part of local commerce and communities, all the more important during crises like COVID-19. As more people and more restaurants have come to use our services, Q2 bookings on Uber Eats are up more than 100 percent year on year. We’re thrilled to welcome Postmates to the Uber family as we innovate together to deliver better experiences for consumers, delivery people, and merchants across the country,” said Uber CEO Dara Khosrowshahi.“Over the past eight years we have been focused on a single mission: enable anyone to have anything delivered to them on-demand. Joining forces with Uber will continue that mission as we continue to build Postmates while creating an even stronger platform that brings this mission to life for our customers. Uber and Postmates have been strong allies working together to advocate and create the best practices across our industry, especially for our couriers. Together we can ensure that as our industry continues to grow, it will do so for the benefit of everyone in the communities we serve,” said Postmates Co-Founder and CEO Bastian Lehmann. 2278

Some 220 children from separated families remain in custody, four months after a judge ordered the US government to reunite the immigrant families it split up at the border. And 14 of those children were only just added to the list the government uses to track reunifications, officials revealed in court documents filed late Thursday night. The acknowledgment that more families were separated than previously reported is likely to spark concern from advocates, who've frequently questioned the accuracy of the government's record-keeping in the aftermath of the family separation crisis.A review of records prompted the Office of Refugee Resettlement to add 14 more children to its tally, the court filing said. Government attorneys said they've "been careful to re-evaluate and refine the numbers" as they learn new information. The numbers appear in the latest federal court filing in the American Civil Liberties Union's class-action case over family separations. They come as a caravan of migrants, which includes many families, treks through Mexico, bound for the US border -- and as the Trump administration considers a new pilot program that could result in the separations of kids and parents once again."Given the lack of a plan or system to keep track of families, it's no surprise the original numbers were inaccurate," said Lee Gelernt, deputy director of the ACLU's Immigrants' Rights Project and the lead attorney in the case.Advocates have warned that inaccurate statistics could have serious consequences, prolonging family separations and making it harder for the public to track the government's progress in complying with the court's order.Officials have stressed that the numbers are constantly changing, and attorneys are still debating them as they meet to sort out the next steps. Meanwhile, the statistics released in the case's regular court filings offer one of the few public windows into the reunification process. The filing shows some progress in the reunifications -- a painstaking effort that has stretched for months as officials tracked down parents who were deported without their children and coordinated repatriation flights. More than 40 children have been discharged since the last status report in mid-October, and officials said 47 more are on track to be released. But most of the kids from separated families who remain in custody -- more than 75% -- will not be reunified with their parents either because the parents have declined reunification or because officials have deemed reunification cannot occur since the parent is unfit or poses a danger, the filing said. 2616

SORRENTO VALLEY, Calif., (KGTV) — You pinched yourself. It's not a dream. You just won the 0 million Mega Millions Lottery. Now what?"From a financial standpoint they are set," financial planner, Dennis Brewster said. "That's generational money. They should be set for several generations."But Brewster says that's only if you're smart. To get started, he suggests finding inspiration from within. "What is it that they want to do? They are going to get tugged in a lot of different directions," Brewster said. "Everybody is going to tell them to do this, or you should do that. I think that's the hard part. It's going to be hard to say 'no.'"In California, names of winners are made public. That means privacy may become an issue. "Get a new phone, a new address they're probably going to need a lot of things. That's going to be a challenge," Brewster said. So if some distant uncle from your mother's side who you never met, but kind of heard about, suddenly calls you to say they love you, you need to set some boundaries. "At some point, you're going to have to say no," Brewster said. "And maybe they're going to have to get a buffer between themselves and someone else that handles that for them."Brewster says that could be an attorney or a financial planner — someone they completely trust. Next, will you splurge? Remember, there is always a limit."We don't want this to be an unhappy ending. They are so fortunate. Do what you need to do initially, maybe get that out of your system, but then draw a line somewhere," Brewster said. Will you give to charity or make investments? Whatever it is, do your homework and pay your taxes."There are tax-free bonds, for example, where everything is tax exempt," Brewster said. "But don't try to avoid taxes. You want to do what you can and be smart too. Don't get too complicated, trying to avoid something and then create a much bigger problem."The last piece of advice? Brewster says don't let your 15 minutes of fame destroy you."It's that double-edged sword that you're almost trapped by your own fame and fortune, and hopefully that won't happen."Our local jackpot winner has a year to claim their wins, but only 60 days to choose the 5.2 million lump-sum cash option. 2241

SOLANA BEACH, Calif. (KGTV) - A concert at the Belly Up Tavern this Saturday will raise money for a program dedicated to kids with special needs.Banding Together will hold their 7th annual fundraiser from 12-4 pm on February 24th. The concert features three local bands, and one special, surprise guest artist. The bands are Dr. Seahorse, the Grinnell Trio and Jungle Poppins. But the real stars will be the kids and young adults from the program, some of whom will perform with the bands on stage."It's thrilling for them," says Banding Together Co-Founder and Director Angela Meier. "They hear that people like the Rolling Stones have performed a show there and now they get to as well!"The program uses music therapy to help people with special needs come out of their shell. Meier says it's inspiring and amazing to see how they progress."I've had students who have difficulty putting sentences together," says Meier. "And using rhythm and music, all of the sudden they're able to sing whole sentences."In addition to individual and small group classes, Banding Together runs 42 "Jam Sessions" throughout the year, where the students and musicians join together to make music."It's not just that it's making them feel good, but it's giving them self-esteem," says Meier. "It gives them social skills and prepares them to go out into the community and give back."The concert is open to the public and will also feature live auctions, silent auctions and other fundraisers. All the money goes to fund scholarships and to pay for the jam sessions. Over the previous six years, this event has helped the group give out 134 scholarships totaling ,000.Tickets are and are available at the door, or here. 1714
