(KGTV) - The mother of two girls found dead in their San Bernardino County home will be charged with their murders when she is released from the hospital, Ontario police said Thursday. Officers said Linda Nguyen, 47, was placed under arrest and will be booked when she is medically cleared. She is currently unresponsive, police said. The bodies of Nguyen’s daughters, aged 4 months and 14 years, were discovered by their father Tuesday when he returned home from work. Among the evidence were two suicides notes written by Nguyen “indicating that she intended to kill the children and to kill herself," police Sgt. Bill Russell told reporters. "We do know that the mother was dealing with depression prior to the incident and had dealt with that in the past," he said. (KGTV) - San Diego Congresswoman Susan Davis authored legislation that she believes would have a positive impact for military families who are struggling financially.H.R. 1078, called the Military Hunger Prevention Act, would make troops and their families eligible for food supplement benefits. Many families are not currently eligible for the assistance because their Basic Allowance for Housing (BAH) is counted as income when determining eligibility for the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP). “Military families making great sacrifices in service of our country should not be struggling to put food on the table. I continue to work with my colleagues in Congress and push for the enactment of the Military Hunger Prevention Act. This bipartisan, common sense solution will ensure that we properly care for our men and women in uniform and their families,” said Rep. A big winner in this year's election was the marijuana industry, as five states approved some form of legalization.Mississippi approved it for medicinal use. Arizona, Montana and New Jersey approved it for recreational use. South Dakota approved it for both and became the first state to approve both forms of marijuana in the same election.The Drug Policy Alliance says it never expected the support in some states, but hopes it sends a message to lawmakers in Washington D.C.“It doesn’t just stop at marijuana reform,” said Matt Sutton with the Drug Policy Alliance. “People are really seeing drugs as being something that shouldn’t be criminalized in the U.S. and they definitely took that with them to the ballot box.”Changes could happen on the federal level. Congress was supposed to vote on the MORE Act in September. The bill would decriminalize marijuana by removing it from the list of controlled substances and expunge many previous convictions.The Drug Policy Alliance says the bill is now expected to go to a vote by the end of the year and hopes the momentum at the state level translates to a victory at the federal level.“I am hoping that this wave of victories across the country will definitely send a message to Congress and really light a fire under them to pass the MORE Act,” said Sutton.It wasn't just marijuana that won on election night. Oregon voters overwhelmingly approved a proposal to decriminalize possession of all drugs.People caught possessing hard drugs would have the option to pay a 0 fine or attend an addiction recovery center. A Baltimore restaurant issued an apology after video showed a Black woman and her son being denied service because of the boy’s clothes, despite the video showing a white child being served while dressed a similar way. The videos and images posted by Marcia Grant show herself and her son being refused to be seated at Ouzo Bay, with a manager explaining it was because the boy was wearing athletic shorts and sneakers. A white boy who had been served was wearing a similar outfit, Grant pointed out. The unidentified manager told Grant the shorts weren't the same. "You tell me there is no athletic wear. That little boy out there had on athletic tennis shoes and shirt. So why does he get to wear athletic wear and not my son?" Grant can be heard asking in the video. The manager responded by asking if Grant lived close enough for her son to change clothes. 869
