The Northern California town of Guerneville has been turned into an island as the Russian River has risen over 45 feet.The river crested 45.31 feet Wednesday night, Sonoma County Emergency Operation Center spokesman Barry Dugan said, after rising steadily for two days and leaving the community with 4,500 residents isolated.Their homes surrounded by flood waters, they have been moving around on kayaks and canoes."The roadways leading into the town along the river and across the river have been cut off by the rising floodwaters," Sonoma County emergency manager Chris Godley said.Dugan said roughly 2,000 homes and buildings have flooded to some degree. Fifty-nine people so far have been rescued and there are no reported injuries.Eighty-nine roads remain closed in the county. Officials said they are in the planning stages to allow people to re-enter as early as Friday, Dugan said.Stunned residents marveled at the rising waters earlier Wednesday, raising cellphones with one arm and snapping unbelievable photos."It is incredibly flooded. The candlelight vigil for two people killed at an off-campus homecoming party near Greenville, Texas, was interrupted by gunfire Sunday, police said.Officers responded to the shooting around 8 p.m. CDT and found a disturbance during the vigil led to shots being fired, according to Dallas police spokeswoman Tamika Dameron.No injuries were reported in the shooting, but several vehicles were damaged, Dameron said.The vigil comes just one day after two people were killed and 14 others were injured during a party Saturday.Police are still searching for the gunman who opened fire at the off-campus party.Efforts to find the shooter are being complicated by witnesses' reticence, Hunt County Sheriff Randy Meeks told reporters."It appalls me that, as many folks that were there, (they) have not been able to give us a better description of this shooter," the sheriff said. The man arrested for allegedly pushing or throwing a child from the third floor of the Mall of America in Minnesota had been banned from the mall in the past and once told police he had anger issues, court records show.Emmanuel Deshawn Aranda, 24, was charged with attempted homicide after witnesses said a man either pushed or threw the 5 -year-old child on Friday morning from the Bloomington mall's third interior level to its first, police said.Aranda, who police said took off running after the incident, was found inside the mall's transit station and arrested.Authorities described the child's injuries as life-threatening and said witnesses gave the child first aid."The child did suffer significant injuries," Police Chief Jeff Potts said.
