(KGTV) — A German father and son had the summer vacation of a lifetime spanning seven countries, eight cities, and eight theme parks.Better yet, they pulled off the feat in a mere 13 days.Dieter Deussen and his five-year-old son, Julian, finished the last leg of their journey to visit all Legoland theme parks in the world Tuesday. Deussen began the trek wanting to give his son a special experience before he starts school for the first time in September, according to Legoland.RELATED: Legoland offers guests free admission on their birthday in 2019His son being a big Lego fan, Deussen suggested the global tour.The trip took the father eight months of planning, hours he said he would never trade. “100 percent it was worth it. To see Julian smile so much at every park and interact with children from around the world, regardless of the language difference, was amazing for me to see. (KGTV) - Marines and Sailors are finding and rendering WWII bombs safe in the Republic of Palau.Back in September of 1944, the U.S. attacked Peleliu, an island in the Pacific Ocean. It was Japan's second line of defense in WWII and a hop away from the Philippines."There was a lot of casualties in the Battle of Peleliu, which is one of the islands here in Palau," First Class Navy Diver Alexander Grun said.About 1,500 U.S. and 11,000 Japanese soldiers died in that battle, but the war is still taking casualties today."One of the Palauans was telling me they were building a house and they accidentally hit one [a bomb] while they were building their house," Grun said.Dozens of bombs were left on the islands only to be discovered decades later, often by accident.The U.S. hand picked about 100 Marines and Sailors, many from Camp Pendleton and 3rd Marine Aircraft Wing in San Diego, for Task Force Koa Moana, which translates to Ocean Warrior.One of the missions of the task force is to find and render those bombs safe."We have robots that are able to search the beach for us now." Grun said they search as deep as 40 feet in the ocean for these bombs.They arrived July 21 and, according to Grun, found six bombs on the beach."We were able to recover three of them, but three were mines, Japanese mines, that we didn't want to mess with. They were too big," Grun said.The team flagged the bombs' location and will come back on future missions with more equipment to recover them. Grun said when they find a bomb, they deactivate it or, "if it's going to detonate, we make sure everyone's away and do a hard pull. If it detonates, it detonates, if not, they go through a whole procedure and render it safe."They hope to protect Palauans and get home safe to their families."I want to say hello to my family out in San Diego in El Cajon," 1st. Lt. Joseph Sporleder, Communications Officer said. He has a brand new baby and wants to tell his wife and children he loves them.Sporleder said the island is rich with history and it has been incredible seeing old tanks, railway embedded in coral and other remnants of the war.Grun also had a message to his family in Santee, "I love you guys and I'll be home soon."According to the Marines' website, the task force will leave Palau in September. 2324

Charges have been dropped against the man accused of criminal homicide in the Opry Mills shooting.Chaos ensued when 22-year-old Justin Golson?shot at?22-year-old?Demarco Churchwell, who was taken to Skyline Medical Center in critical condition where he later died.Immediately after the shooting, Golson ran from the mall to a ticketing booth outside, placed his gun on the counter, and told the people inside to call 911. He told detectives he acted in self-defense after being threatened over social media by the victim and his friends.The mall was evacuated as police secured the area and investigated the incident.Court records show Golson's charge of criminal homicide was dismissed on Monday, July 30. 729

CARLSBAD (CNS) - A 47-year-old man suffered severe injuries when he lost control of his speeding car and struck a tree on a Carlsbad street, police said Tuesday.Dispatchers received a report of a solo vehicle crash shortly before 6:10 p.m. Monday in the 7100 block of Corintia Street, off Alga Road, Carlsbad police Lt. Christie Calderwood said.Officers responded and found the man -- a Carlsbad resident -- unconscious inside a Mercedes-Benz CLS 55 sedan, Calderwood said.A preliminary investigation found that the victim was speeding when he struck a curb, lost control of the sedan and crashed into the tree, the lieutenant said.Paramedics took the injured motorist to the hospital for treatment of "severe injuries," Calderwood said. An update on the man's condition was not immediately available and it was not immediately known if drugs or alcohol were factors in the crash.Anyone with information about the crash was asked to contact Cpl.
