The U.S. government is officially investigating Facebook.The Federal Trade Commission confirmed in a statement Monday that it is currently investigating Facebook data practices as the company faces new scrutiny from the Cambridge Analytica scandal."The FTC takes very seriously recent press reports raising substantial concerns about the privacy practices of Facebook," said Tom Pahl, acting director of the FTC's Bureau of Consumer Protection. The term "money laundering" was never more appropriate than this week, when Dutch police found around 0,000 stuffed inside the drum of a washing machine.A man present in the house during Monday's raid was arrested on suspicion of -- yes, you've guessed it -- money laundering.Authorities were checking for unregistered residents in western Amsterdam when they found the load."The municipal administration revealed that no one lived at the address," the police told CNN in a statement. "When the police did a search through the house they found €350,000 hidden in the washing machine."The police also confiscated several mobile phones, a firearm and a money-counting machine during the raid. The suspect, who is 24 years old, has not been named.The police news release included a picture of bundles of €20 and €50 bills crammed into the washing machine.They said in a statement that the raid was part of an investigation into "housing fraud, money laundering and other [signs] of crime." 997

The University of Washington¡¯s Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation now projects that 68,000 American lives would be saved between now and March 1 by near universal wearing of masks.The IHME released the updated model on Thursday.The IHME¡¯s coronavirus projections have been frequently cited in the past by the White House¡¯s coronavirus task force. The group uses state data along with other metrics to create projections on the number of coronavirus-related deaths throughout the US.Among the projections released by the IHME, the number of active hospitalizations in the United States tied to the coronavirus is expected to double by mid-January.The COVID Tracking Project, a project led by The Atlantic, shows that current coronavirus-related hospitalizations hurdled the 60,000 mark in the US on Tuesday for the first time since the start of the pandemic. The Republican National Committee has withdrawn from a joint fundraising agreement with Roy Moore, according to a Federal Election Commission filing posted Tuesday, as the GOP establishment continues to break ties with the Alabama Senate candidate.The National Republican Senatorial Committee was the first to drop itself from the agreement, which benefits Moore's campaign, ending its participation last Friday, according to FEC filings. 466

The Salt Lake Tribune reported late Monday night that at least one person has died in a 'shots fired' incident on the University of Utah's campus. According to the university, it asked those on campus to "shelter in place" Monday night as authorities looked for the gunman, and other possible victims. Traffic was reportedly blocked off, and mass transit was shut down in the immediate vicinity of the shooting. The suspect is said to be 24-year-old Austin J. Boutain, who was wearing a coat, jeans and beanie, with a teardrop tattoo on his face. The university added that he may have been driving a forest green pick-up truck with Colorado plates.As of early Tuesday morning, he was still on the loose, and considered dangerous. 767
