In his interview on the popular “WTF with Marc Maron” podcast on July 27, 2020, Rogen said amassing Jews in one country to keep them safe “doesn’t make sense.” Their comments about Israel infuriated many Israel supporters and were interpreted as denying Israel’s right to exist. With many school districts in Virginia opting to start the school year with distance learning, one Hampton Roads social studies teacher shares his thoughts on how to help students have a virtually successful school year.Christopher True is a middle school social studies teacher who is gearing up for a new school year and the inevitable challenge that will come with it.True says communication is key to virtual success.“If that student is struggling with something, they may not be telling the parent.”He says parents should encourage their children not to be afraid to reach out to their teacher for help.True says the communication between students and teachers is just as important as the communication between the teachers and parents.He says parents shouldn’t be afraid of contacting teachers and describes virtual learning as “a community-led effort.”Schools will undoubtedly have expectations for students, even at home, but True hopes those expectations come leniency.“If you have a student whose parents work and [that student] actually has to go to daycare, they can't be expected to be in a class zoom at 10 a.m. if they don't have access to that stuff. And that's just going to be one of those things that we have to account for.”The test run of virtual learning at the end of last school year taught everyone new lessons, including that it takes time to adjust.While he’s banking on beginning the school year virtually, True is looking forward to connecting in the classroom once again.“There's no place I'd rather be. STEAMBOAT SPRINGS, Colo. – Hig Roberts, a decorated Alpine skier, has come out as gay.The two-time U.S. national champion joins a small group of LGBTQ skiers who have come out publicly in a sport that The New York Times describes as “closed and clubby.” That includes freestyle skier Gus Kenworthy, who revealed he is gay on ESPN in 2015.This makes the 29-year-old the first current or former male Alpine skier of his caliber to come out publicly in Alpine skiing, The Times reports.In an interview with The Times, Roberts said Alpine skiing has a hyper-masculine vibe and he was pressured to conform. He said that eventually, not being able to be openly gay as a professional athlete was hindering his performance.Roberts, who grew up in Steamboat Springs, Colorado, retired from skiing in March 2019 and moved to Norway to work in finance, but has since moved back to the U.S.He told The Times that he decided to come out in part to inspire young skiers and to let them know they can compete at the highest levels no matter their sexuality.Throughout his career, Roberts made 31 World Cup starts, competed for the U.S. Ski team and won two national titles. He never got the opportunity to compete in the Olympics, but he was the first alternate in the 2018 Pyeongchang, according to Out Magazine.Still, Roberts told the magazine that he hopes to get involved with Olympic athletes in the future to foster spaces where athletes are comfortable to be themselves, while still working to be the best in their sports. 1522
