John McCain personally as his bus driver.“Driving the 'Straight Talk Express Coach' for Senator McCain,” Frierson told WCPO. “Got started in 2000. Then it started to go up from there," said Romona Brazile, Interim Co-Director of Prevention and Wellness Services at Cuyahoga County Board of Health. "Of course, we want to see our families, but limiting the number of people, still trying to practice social distancing even if it is in your own home, still wearing a mask."Dr. Anthony Fauci, Director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Disease agrees. His own family is now sacrificing not seeing each other as his children worry about his age and possible exposure to the virus.“Don't assume that because you're in your own home with your own family that you're not going to spread infection,” he said.Even traveling to see our families is risky. Dr. Fauci said travel on planes and public transportation could increase exposure to the virus.Instead, the CDC is offering up some suggestions on ways you can still have a holiday celebration with friends and family while being safe.The agency said celebrating virtually is your best bet, but if you do meet up in person make sure you stay outside as much as possible and avoid crowds. The CDC also said gatherings with more preventive measures in place pose less risk compared to gatherings with fewer or no preventive measures at all.After any holiday celebrations, you should stay at home as much as possible, avoid crowds and those considered at risk. Claims that U.S. voter registration rolls have been hacked and leaked are false and were created by malicious actors trying to spread disinformation ahead of the 2020 election, the FBI and the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) said Monday.In a press release published on the FBI's Internet Crime Complaint Center, the agencies said they have "no information suggesting any cyberattack on U.S. election infrastructure," and added that registration rolls or any ballots already cast have not been compromised.The FBI says foreign actors and cybercriminals are spreading false reports about cyberattacks affecting election integrity in "an attempt to manipulate public opinion, discredit the electoral process, and undermine confidence in U.S. democratic institutions."According to the press release, U.S. voter information is publicly available and can be purchased, and while hackers have obtained some of that information in the past, the data "did not impact the voting process or the integrity of election results."Ahead of the 2016 election, Russia used social media to create politically-oriented groups and spread misinformation. The FBI has warned that Russia and other countries are attempting to do the same thing in 2020.In order to avoid misinformation online, the FBI suggests:Seeking out information from trustworthy sources, verifying who produced the content, and considering their intent.Relying on state and local election officials for information about voter registration databases and voting systems.Viewing early, unverified claims with a healthy dose of skepticism.Verifying through multiple reliable sources any reports about compromises of voter information or voting systems, and consider searching for other reliable sources before sharing such information via social media or other avenues.Reporting potential election crimes — such as disinformation about the manner, time, or place of voting — to the FBI.Making use of in-platform tools offered by social media companies for reporting suspicious posts that appear to be spreading false or inconsistent information about voter information or voting systems. 2164

Congressman Duncan Hunter is continuing to stand up for his political livelihood, one year after a federal campaign fraud indictment.Voters in the 50th District re-elected Hunter in November, despite 60 federal charges of campaign fraud against him and his wife Margaret. The Hunters were accused of misusing 0,000 in campaign contributions - funding things like lavish vacations and living expenses. Now, the congressman is facing attacks and challenges from members of his own party as he pushes to renew his term in 2020. "When he was first indicted, everybody wrote his political obituary," said Political Analyst John Dadian. But Hunter, a Republican, is very much alive. He beat Democrat Ammar Campa-Najjar in 2018, and is continuing to fight the charges in Federal Court.The challenges, however, are mounting. In June, Margaret Hunter reached a plea deal with prosecutors, agreeing to testify against her husband. Plus, Judge Thomas Whelan ruled federal prosecutors can use details of Congressman Hunter's alleged affairs with five Washington D.C. area women, allegedly funded with campaign contributions, as part of their case. "I think voters in the 50th District have said, and they clearly spoke in November of 2018, that they want to wait for the courts to decide and give them a clear judgment before they decide on the political fate of Congressman Hunter," said Thad Kousser, who chairs the political science department at UC San Diego. Hunter's trial has now been pushed back to mid-January to wait for a decision on his appeal to have the case thrown out. That means voters will be getting their absentee ballots while the trial is ongoing. "They're going to have very litlte time to make up their minds after this trial," Kousser said. In 2020, California will hold its primary on March 3. In prior years, the primary would be held in June. In addition to Campa-Najjar, a Democrat, a number of San Diego-area Republicans have challenged Hunter.
