Colorado's First Gentleman, Marlon Reis, is now in the hospital due to worsening COVID-19 symptoms.Both Reis and Gov. Jared Polis tested positive for COVID-19 last Saturday. At the time, Polis said both of them had only mild symptoms.Over the weekend, Reis started to experience a slightly worsening cough and shortness of breath eight days after being diagnosed with COVID-19, according to the press release from the governor's office.As a precaution, Gov. Polis drove Reis to the hospital in his personal vehicle to be reviewed and treated. Polis says he is not experiencing any additional symptoms at this time.Reis posted on Facebook about the hospital trip, and said it was precautionary and used the message to encourage mask wearing.“Friends,Today, on day eight of my bout with Coronavirus, I experienced a worsening cough and shortness of breath. My doctor suggested that as a precaution I go to the hospital, so a few hours ago Jared drove me to the hospital where I was admitted and am now being closely monitored.“In addition to your kind thoughts and prayers for me and everyone else afflicted by this horrible virus, please be extra careful to avoid getting it. CLEVELAND — Scientists at the Cleveland Clinic Lerner Research Institute have successfully reversed Alzheimer's disease in mice.According to a news release, the researchers reversed the formation of harmful plaque in the mice's brains by gradually reducing an enzyme called BACE1, improving their mental function.“To our knowledge, this is the first observation of such a dramatic reversal of amyloid deposition in any study of Alzheimer’s disease mouse models,” says Riqiang Yan, one of the scientists on the team. The study raises hopes that drugs aimed at this same enzyme will soon be able to treat Alzheimer's disease in humans. You can read the full study in the Journal of Experimental Medicine here. 735

CORONADO (KGTV) -- A man was taken into custody Wednesday on suspicion of sexually assaulting a woman on a boat anchored in San Diego Bay, Harbor Police announced.Pablo Alvarez, 38, was booked on five felony counts related to sexual assault by force, according to jail records.The alleged assault happened in the waters off Coronado's Tidelands Park in what's known as the A-4 anchorage, a place where several dozen boats are anchored just north of the Coronado Bridge.There is no dock, so boaters must use a dinghy or a kayak to access the larger vessels in the anchorage.Early Wednesday morning, the victim fled a sailboat in the anchorage using a kayak, but the kayak capsized in the darkness, forcing the woman to swim the rest of the way to shore, said Harbor Police Lt. Victor Banuelos.The woman managed to call the police just before 4:45 a.m.Alvarez and the woman were the only people on board the sailboat at the time, according to Banuelos. The nature of their relationship is under investigation.Alvarez is scheduled to appear in court Friday.Harbor Police asked anyone with information to call detectives at 619-686-8132. 1141

COLLIER COUNTY, Fla — Deputies say a trip to the ice cream store ended with a man getting scooped up by police for DUI.Deputies say 23-year-old Josh Verrot faces several charges, including DUI, battery on a first-responder and fraud. According to a Collier County Sheriff's arrest report, he was arrested Sunday evening outside the Royal Scoop ice cream shop on 8th street in the Vanderbilt Lakes community.Witnesses say that Verrot was driving recklessly in a car with two flat front tires when he pulled into the ice cream shop parking lot and went inside.  As he came out with ice cream, he heard approaching sirens and fled on foot.Deputies located him behind the store and say he refused to do sobriety tests. On the way to the hospital he reportedly bit a firefighter's finger, repeatedly spit toward authorities and yelled “blah-blah-blah” while authorities communicated with him.He also provided his brother's name when asked to identify himself.He's due in court at the end of the month. 1024
