SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Scripps Health revealed Tuesday plans for major new construction projects and buildings at its hospitals in San Diego County.The master plan includes flexible design spaces for evolving technology in patient rooms, operating rooms, laboratories and diagnostic centers, Scripps officials said.More care will be delivered on an outpatient basis at clinics and other facilities so Scripps can use acute care hospitals to care for the most seriously ill patients, said the company."This is our vision to build the health care system of the future - starting today," said Scripps president and CEO Chris van Gorder. "Our focus is on delivering the right care in the right setting that reflects the changing health care needs of the communities we serve across the San Diego region."The projects will be financed by operating revenues, borrowing and philanthropy, Scripps said.Scripps Memorial Hospital La Jolla:Construction includes a new seven-story, 401,000 square-foot hospital tower. It will feature a woman's health center, nursery, and neonatal ICU. The building should be finished in 2024.Scripps Mercy Chula Vista, Scripps Green Hospitals:The facilities will undergo seismic retrofitting. The work will start in 2022 in Chula Vista and 2027 at Scripps Green.Scripps Mercy San Diego:The campus will be the largest project for the health care system. The existing acute care building will be replaced with a new 710,000 square-foot 15-story tower. Most of the rooms will be private. The central energy plant will also be upgraded. Construction will start in 2022 and end in 2027.Scripps Memorial Hospital Encinitas:Plans include a new 185,000 square-foot three-story acute care building, a new medical office building, seismic retrofitting and energy plant upgrades. The work will be finished in 2024.Other projects:Construction includes two new Scripps MD Anderson outpatient cancer centers at Scripps Mercy San Diego and Scripps Radiation Therapy Center in La Jolla. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Several San Diego chefs will try and set the world record for most pieces of sushi made in 48 hours this month.Sushi Festival San Diego will see Chef Jeff Roberto and several others try to produce 100,000 pieces of sushi in 48 hours, from Oct. 26 to Oct. 28.Roberto, who owns Sushi On A Roll, says the feat has been in the works for a while now.RELATED: San Diego is among top 'foodie cities' in America, report says"This has been a long time coming. Sushi On A Roll will set the world record of sushi made in 48 hours," Robert wrote in an email. "I'm excited to have my friends in the industry to be a part of this and to make this happen."Tickets for the event range from 0 - 5, including intimate omakase experiences from featured chefs and VIP tickets including all-you-can-eat dining — because there will definitely be plenty to go around. A variety of local taiko groups and other performers will also provide live entertainment during the event.Profits from the event will benefit the Friends of Rollo nonprofit, which take youth fishing and educates them about the ocean ecosystem. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- SeaWorld San Diego is being allowed to reopen, but certain parts of the park will have to remain closed, a San Diego County spokesman said.A county spokesman told ABC 10News that the park is being allowed to reopen under California’s guidance for zoos.SeaWorld San Diego will be able to open its outdoor areas of the park, but indoor areas -- such as its aquariums -- and rides will not be open to guests under the specific zoo guidance.Under the zoo guidance, the park will have to post a Safe Reopening Plan like other businesses.It remains unknown when the park will officially reopen; SeaWorld San Diego officials did not immediately respond to ABC 10News’ request for comment.The park has been closed since March due to the coronavirus pandemic. The park's website states that for season passholders, tickets will be extended as long as the closure lasted.The company’s most recent earnings report revealed troubling numbers from the second quarter and first six months of 2020, including revenue down 96 percent compared to the same time last year.Parents around San Diego said the news is a welcome sign after a summer of closures. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - San Diego-based Qualcomm won a million decision Friday against Apple in a patent infringement case involving iPhones. A jury in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of California found the iPhone 7, 7 Plus, 8, 8 Plus, and X infringed Qualcomm’s patents. One of the patents enables "flashless booting”, eliminating the need for separate flash memory. It also allows a smartphone to connect to the internet quickly after being powered on, according to Qualcomm officials. The other two patents allow smartphone apps to access internet data quickly, and enable high performance and graphics while increasing battery life, Qualcomm said in a news release. Qualcomm was awarded million in damages from July 6, 2017, the date the lawsuit was filed, through the end of the trial. "Today's unanimous jury verdict is the latest victory in our worldwide patent litigation directed at holding Apple accountable for using our valuable technologies without paying for them," said Don Rosenberg, executive vice president and general counsel for Qualcomm. "The technologies invented by Qualcomm and others are what made it possible for Apple to enter the market and become so successful so quickly. The three patents found to be infringed in this case represent just a small fraction of Qualcomm's valuable portfolio of tens of thousands of patents. We are gratified that courts all over the world are rejecting Apple's strategy of refusing to pay for the use of our IP."
