GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. — Crews battling the sprawling Pine Gulch Fire were presented with another problem overnight Tuesday — a flurry of lightning, and not solely from a rain-producing thunderstorm.Instead, it was the fire itself — now an estimated 125,000 acres after growing 37,000 acres overnight — that produced cloud-to-ground lightning for several hours early Wednesday.The phenomenon was a product of pyrocumulus clouds, which can form when moisture or atmospheric instability moves over an intense heat source, according to the National Weather Service.In the case of the Pine Gulch Fire on Tuesday night, an outflow boundary had produced showers near the Wyoming border, north of the fire area. When that moisture moved south, the fire responded with a rapid output of heat, leading to the pyrocumulus, according to the NWS forecast discussion Wednesday morning.Radar showed consistent lightning strikes for several hours, and NWS employees could see the lightning from their office in Grand Junction.The extreme nature of the Pine Gulch Fire produced a couple more byproducts, noticeable in Grand Junction overnight. When the smoke plume from the fire rebuilt, the temperature in Grand Junction rose from 78 to 90 degrees, according to the NWS forecast discussion. Georgia Sec. of State Brad Raffensperger said Wednesday that the state would conduct a hand recount in the 2020 presidential election.Raffensperger said a hand recount would help reassure voters of the integrity of the election. According to The Associated Press, Raffensperger says he wants the process to begin this week and expects the recount to be finished by Nov. 20.Under Georgia law, candidates are entitled to request a recount if the outcome percentage is within 0.5%. Biden currently holds a 0.28% lead in the state. Raffensperger says once the hand recount is finished, the losing candidate can then request a second machine hand recount.The presidential race between Donald Trump and Joe Biden in the state remains too close to call, though Biden holds a lead of more than 14,000 votes in the state with 99% of the vote count.Recounts typically only affect the outcome of about a few hundred votes. In a 2016 recount of the presidential election in Wisconsin — which went to Trump by a margin of about 20,000 votes — the outcome only shifted about 500 votes. A recount in Florida in 2000 did have an impact on the election, as it was the tipping-point state in the election and was decided by about 500 votes.Officials in Georgia have not reported any systematic issues with the vote that would indicate widespread issues in tallying.Even if the vote count were to flip in Georgia, Biden is projected to still have more than the required 270 electoral votes to claim the presidency. It was found in West Michigan, but she's not even from Michigan."I've been doing this for 10 years, and in those 10 years I found over 115 rings," said Gregg Larabel, who found the ring.You could say Larabel always had a knack for finding things."My dad got us started in 1972 with a little bounty hunter, and I've been metal detecting ever since," Larabel explained. "Then, I come across this Ring Finders site and joined it, and here I am."The Ring Finders is an international organization that prides itself on recovering millions of dollars in lost jewelry. But most importantly, they make sure these priceless items get back to their owners."I've had a couple of ,000 rings. "I have the basketball on one side [of the ring], and then I have two track wings on the other," she said. "It was a treat. I'm from a single-parent home, so it was a sacrifice to even get a ring that expensive."Regarding losing the ring, Foster laughed, remembering "it was kind of a bummer, because it's like, 'Oh, I see why [ my mom] didn't buy me nothing expensive.'"Larabel contacted Foster through Facebook and drove three hours to Chicago to personally drop it off."It's funny that Gregg just reached out, and he just lost his wife," Foster mused.
