NEW YORK (AP) — Hall of Famer Lou Brock, the dynamic leadoff hitter and base stealer who helped the St. Louis Cardinals win three pennants and two World Series in the 1960s, has died at 81.Dick Zitzmann, the outfielder's longtime agent and friend, confirmed Brock's death.Brock arrived in St. Louis in June 1964, swapped from the Chicago Cubs for pitcher Ernie Broglio in one of baseball’s most lopsided trades.Brock was an anchor for St. Louis as its combination of speed, defense and pitching made a top teams in the ’60s.Brock lost a leg from diabetes in recent years and was diagnosed with cancer in 2017. 617

NEW YORK CITY — Complaints of fireworks are booming in New York City. There were 1,737 calls about fireworks recorded with 311 in the first half of June, which is more than 80 times the amount in the same time period last year.Brooklyn has had more complaints than any other borough. Borough President Eric Adams doesn't want to see attempts to end the fireworks turn into "fireworks between the police and the community.""It's time for all those who call 311, who don't want heavy-handed policing, it's time to come out of your homes and talk to the young people or the people on your block who are setting fireworks off," he said.Fed up, fatigued or just fascinated, some are turning to social media to ask some form of the same question: What's up with the fireworks? Some suspect they may be shows of support for the protesters following the death of George Floyd. Others wonder whether they're simply a way of blowing off steam after being stuck inside by restrictions meant to limit the spread of the coronavirus. This story was originally published by Cristian Benavides with content from the Associated Press on WPIX in New York City. 1147

NOBLESVILLE, Indiana — Concertgoers at a Rascal Flatts concert in Indiana on Thursday night were left wondering what happened after the event ended abruptly.Due to a "security concern," everybody in the band had to leave the Ruoff Home Mortgage Music Center, according to a Facebook post from Rascal Flatts."The safety of our fans, band and crew is always the top priority for us, so we are so thankful for everyone who jumped into action and for your understanding," the post reads. Caitlyn Conlon had front-row tickets for the concert. She said at the beginning of the concert, everyone felt safe, and one of the band members said to the crowd, "With everything going on in the world today, we are Americans first before anything else. We are all one and just forget everything going on and let’s all become one tonight.”Later in the concert, the keyboard player started to play another song, then abruptly stopped, she said. Conlon said they were told by security that they had to leave right away. She said there was a lot of speculation about what exactly happened, and that the band didn't get a chance to play its biggest songs. A few videos from fans show the confusion before the concert ended.  1242

NEW YORK (AP) — Workers have installed nearly 200 glittering Waterford crystal triangles on Times Square's New Year's Eve ball in preparation for a pandemic-limited celebration. The ball is a 12-foot geodesic sphere covered with more than 2,000 crystal triangles of various sizes. Some new crystals are swapped in every year. This year's addition features a new “Gift of Happiness” design represented by a sunburst of bright cuts radiating outward. The ball blazing with more than 32,000 LED lights will be dropped at 11:59 p.m. on New Year's Eve to ring in 2021. 571
