MALIBU (CNS) - The Woolsey Fire that has burned more than 85,500 acres, destroyed at least 177 homes and forced the evacuation of more than 265,000 people in Los Angeles and Ventura counties is also mobilizing the local animal rescue community, as volunteers scrambled to find shelter for thousands of small pets and large animals alike.Evacuation centers for animals at Hansen Dam in Lake View Terrace and Pierce College in Woodland Hills quickly filled up after opening Friday. LOUISVILLE, Ky. – A billboard calling for justice in the Breonna Taylor case was vandalized with red paint in Louisville..The public discovered the vandalism to the sign near the city’s Irish Hill neighborhood Tuesday morning, WLKY and WAVE report.However, by Tuesday afternoon, both TV stations say the paint had either been removed from the billboard or it had been replaced.The billboard is one of several erected in the Kentucky city by Oprah Winfrey and her magazine, which featured Taylor on its September issue. She was the first person other than Oprah herself to grace the cover.The signs feature a photo of the 26-year-old woman who was shot and killed by police in her home in March. They also have a call to action – “Demand that the police involved in killing Breonna Taylor be arrested and charged” – and encourage people to visit the website for Until Freedom, a social justice organization created to address systemic and racial injustice.Taylor died on March 13 after three Louisville police officers executing a search warrant used a battering ram to enter her home. The emergency room technician and her boyfriend were in bed. After a brief exchange, Taylor’s boyfriend reportedly fired his gun and then police fired shots, striking Taylor at least eight times. She died in the apartment hallway.Since Taylor’s death, protests have been held across the country, demanding that the officers involved be charged in her killing. Many celebrities other than Oprah have also used their platforms to call for action.For now, the shooting is under investigation by the FBI and Kentucky Attorney General Daniel Cameron. They traveled thousands of miles from Central America with hope for a better life in America.One young man told 10 News he was fleeing violence, saying police attacked him and stole from him. He hopes for more opportunities, like a job and education in the U.S.Alfonso Rosales saw the migrants as he came over the border, saying in Spanish, they were excited and happy, cheering that they've reached their goal.Several immigrants told 10 News in Mexico they were scared, afraid what the process would entail and of being turned away.One father, Pedro Ismael Varela, said he's worried about being separated from his young son.At the border agents stopped the caravan saying they were at capacity. Members of the group say there's about 20 people waiting at the door for their turn, and the rest of the group waiting in Mexico.The port of entry is a 24 hour operation, and will be open overnight to process people wanting to come through the border."A lot of them get detained, some of them not, that’s the next step, it’s case by case," Alor Calderon, Director of Employer Rights Center said. MARION COUNTY, Fla. — A Florida woman was arrested on Tuesday after deputies say six children in her care were living in some of the worst living conditions they've ever seen.Marion County, Florida Sheriff’s Office deputies arrested Sara Nicole Resko, 30, after some of the children were found wandering in the street on Tuesday afternoon. Deputies say that a 2-year-old girl and a 4-year-old boy were found wandering in the road alone. The little girl was not clothed from the waist down and a witness provided a towel to the child so she could cover up. Deputies say they immediately saw that both children were infested with lice and covered with open sores.The little girl was in worse condition than the little boy, having multiple open sores on her arms, legs, chest, back, feet and face, deputies say.While deputies were trying to figure out where the two children came from, they saw more children riding bicycles down the roadway, later identified as the siblings of the two and 4-year-old.These children, ages 6, 8, 9 and 13, told deputies that Resko had left them alone at the home while she was at work.Deputies entered the home and found that there was no running water, no food and no electricity. The floor was covered in dog feces and the home was infested with flies. The home was in complete disarray and the children were only given mattresses on the floor with no linens to sleep on, deputies say. All of the children had open sores and lice on them as well.After deputies had been on scene for an hour and a half, Resko finally arrived at the home. She told deputies that she had just been gone for a few minutes, but quickly began changing her story once deputies told her how long they had been there investigating.MCSO says that upon further review of Resko’s history, deputies found two previously reported incidents where the children had been left unsupervised. The Department of Children and Families responded to an incident on February 2, and implemented a supervision plan with Resko, who was instructed to not allow the 13-year-old to babysit the other children anymore.Deputies ultimately determined that Resko failed on multiple occasions to provide care and supervision for these children. DCF responded and took custody of the six children. Resko was arrested and charged with six counts of Child Neglect.Resko is being held on a ,000 bond. 2412
