This comes after the city of La Mesa enacted an Executive Order on Thursday, which allows businesses to use outdoor spaces for dining, displaying products, and other services.Meanwhile, Coronado waived its alcohol prohibition in city parks, just ahead of this weekend's Spreckels Park Outdoor Dining Room event. This is a move to get people to buy local take-out, and picnic outdoors.Coronado also approved gyms to hold classes at Spreckels Park, Bradley Field, and the beach."We feel fortunate that we live in a town where we can just jump out into the park and do yoga," Stephanie Anderson with Island Yoga Coronado said.Tuesday, San Diego Mayor Kevin Faulconer signed an Executive Order waiving permitting requirements for sidewalks and parking lots for restaurants expanding outdoors.On the same day, Chula Vista approved plans to block off car traffic on Third Avenue on weekend evenings. This will help diners expand their businesses onto the entire street, not just on sidewalks and parking lots. The Third Avenue Village Association will discuss details and the start date at a special meeting next Wednesday.On Wednesday, Poway approved its Shared Outside Spaces (SOS) program, which lets houses of worship and gyms to hold activities at city parks. The city began accepting applications Friday morning. The city says we could be seeing yoga classes at parks as early as Monday.Both local governments and businesses must stay nimble to fight through the pandemic."There is no quit in my team," Torres said. "Everyone has stepped up to the plate. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — City Councilman Scott Sherman's newly announced candidacy will alter the race to become San Diego's next mayor.Sherman, termed out from City Council, is the first household Republican to run to lead America's eighth largest city. Sherman announced he would run just before the Dec. 6 deadline to file for the March 2020 primary. Current Mayor Kevin Faulconer, a Republican, is termed out. In an interview, Sherman said he did not want the mayoral debates to be dominated by two big-name Democrats: State Assemblyman Todd Gloria and City Council President Pro-Tem Barbara Bry. "There's a very good chance that he will get in the runoff."The top two vote-getters, regardless of party affiliation, will move on to the November primary. In September, a 10News-Union-Tribune scientific poll showed Gloria leading Bry by a two-to-one margin, with 31 percent of voters supporting Gloria, and 15 percent supporting Bry. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Blake Davis' story is filled with chapters of love and laughter."We used to call him a smiley meatball! He was always a big guy, always in the 100th percentile in terms of growth and just really animated and really fun to be around," said Blake's mom, Leah. But at 14 months old, their seemingly healthy baby stopped breathing at the park. He was revived and rushed to the hospital. "He was diagnosed with pulmonary hypertension, so high blood pressure of the lungs," said Rob, Blake's dad.Doctors told Rob and Leah that this was rare in children. "We were overwhelmed lost, devastated, had no clue what was going on, what his future would be, and felt totally helpless," the couple said.As the months passed inside the hospital, friends and family asked what they could do to help. The family asked that they do something kind in Blake's honor, and share the story on a Facebook page created for Blake."It was this really, really beautiful, uplifting thing happening in the world during our darkest moments," said Leah. Blake was eventually released from the hospital, but months later, his condition then worsened. He needed a lung transplant."Ultimately, on January 2 of 2019, we got the news he was unanimously accepted onto the lung transplant registry. And that was the day he passed," said Leah.But the good deeds continued. "There are a lot that don't cost a penny. Helping someone at the grocery store, planting a tree, cleaning a beach," said Leah. What started in San Diego spread across the country and then the world. "Any selfless act whether it costs money or is free, anything positive and uplifting," said Rob.The Davis family created a website to document the movement sparked by Blake. People can share kind acts inspired by Blake through the website's "good deed tracker."The family also created kindness cards people can use to help share Blake's story. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Congress is considering a bill that will push for more transparency in the online event ticketing industry. Included in the reforms would be a mandate that companies disclose the full cost of each ticket, including additional fees, up front.In the current environment, most ticket sites show only the cost of the ticket up front, but add the fees after the customer has begun the process of purchasing the tickets.San Diego Congressman Scott Peters is on the committee considering the bill and questioned leaders from the major ticketing companies during a congressional hearing Wednesday. The hearing included representatives from Ticketmaster, Stubhub, and AXS.Other contentious issues being considered by lawmakers include battling ticket fraud, transfer of tickets once purchased, and the accusations that companies withhold putting many of the tickets on sale at one time in order to create a false sense of demand and artificially cause the ticket prices to increase.Peters says he thinks Congress will be able to pass a strong bill to create more transparency.
