SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Lime is warning riders of a problem with their deckles scooters that can cause “sudden excessive braking during use.”The company issued a safety update on Saturday, saying they had recently discovered a bug in the firmware of their scooters.They determined in some circumstances, the brake on the front wheel would be suddenly and automatically applied often after hitting an obstacle while riding downhill at high speeds.“While this issue has affected less than 0.0045% of all Lime rides, some riders have been injured,” wrote Lime in the safety update.That includes Paul Grasso, who says he was riding a Lime scooter on December 18 on Ingraham Street near Vacation Road in Mission Bay.He said he had just gone down the bridge and was making his way up a sidewalk ramp when the scooter’s wheels tightened up, sending him flying face-first into the pavement.“I spent five days in the hospital,” he said with a “broken nose, fractured skull, traumatic brain injury, fractured eye socket, ten stitches in my forehead and stitches on my nose.”10News reached out to Lime about Grasso’s crash but they said they couldn’t comment on rider specific questions.Lime has launched a fleet-wide firmware update to fix the braking bug. It should reach all of their scooters in the next few days, according to the company’s safety update.Until they have confirmed that all of their scooters have been updated, they have issued a list of precautions for riders:Before starting your Lime trip, walk around the scooter and do a visual inspection of the hardware. Is the vehicle body in good condition? If not, don’t use that vehicle; report it to our customer service team and then select another vehicle.Once you start your Lime trip, give the brake a tight squeeze. If the brake does not engage properly and immediately stop the vehicle, dismount, end the trip and notify Lime customer service.Use extra caution in the next few days while we issue the final firmware update -- especially when riding downhill. Always stay in full control of your scooter and don’t go full speed while riding downhill.Comply with any scooter audible or visual warnings to slow or adjust your speed.Ride defensively: wear a helmet and reflective or bright clothing, respect the right of way and be cautious of other cars, trucks and pedestrians, don’t ever ride under the influence of alcohol or drugs, and always ride in bike lanes when available.Ride smart: follow the rules of the road, keep both hands on the handle bars, don’t use your mobile device while riding and avoid wearing headphones. 2591

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Jurors have reached their verdict in the trial of a man accused of killing a Navy sailor on a Logan Heights freeway ramp in 2018.Edson Acuna, 26, was found guilty of first-degree murder, robbery, and several other charges in connection with the murder of 21-year-old Curtis Adams on Oct. 27, 2018. Adams was driving on I-15 at about 2 a.m., when he came upon what appeared to be a disabled vehicle. As Adams got out of his vehicle to check on the car's occupants when he was shot.Prosecutors say Acuna and three others had burglarized a Mt. Hope home that night, before getting into a shootout with the home's residents. As they fled, one of their vehicle's tires were shot out. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Just in time for the Fourth of July, the Mission Beach Plunge pool is reopening to the public. The iconic pool was one of the original attractions when the amusement park opened in 1925. However, it had run into hard times in recent years and has been closed for much of the last decade. One management company went bankrupt. The next came up with a renovation plan, only to discover dangerous, corroding conditions inside, leading to the pool's closure in 2014.Thanks to a partnership between the City of San Diego, Fit Athletic, and Pacifica Enterprises, the renovated pool is almost unrecognizable. "This is absolutely special, incredible," said Dr. McQuary, a longtime San Diego resident who is active in the community."What I remember about the Plunge was the issues and concerns about how we can swim and still be safe. When things would fall from the sky, it wasn't rain; it was the plaster from the ceiling!"The Plunge at Fit features floor to wall glass ceilings and a retractable roof. It also incorporates some of the building's original features, replicating the tiling and original archways.Part of the new Fit Athletic Mission Beach gym, the facility also offers beach views throughout. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Jonathan Goldwasser was one of the first business owners to set up shop inside One Paseo in Del Mar Heights.He opened the Parakeet Cafe when One Paseo’s retail area launched in March 2019 - and followed that up a few months later with Juice Crafters.He says business is of course best when the plaza is full.However, One Paseo has been anything but full since March, when coronavirus restrictions went into effect.“This has been hard,” Goldwasser said. “We went from maybe 20 employees to four.”Things, however, changed this week, when One Paseo fully reopened its retail center. On Thursday, there were people sitting at its socially distant tables and chairs, while shoppers in masks walked down its courtyard.“Little by little we are hoping that we will get back to where we were before COVID,” Goldwasser said, noting he’s back up to about 20 workers.About 25% of the center’s 40-plus businesses are mom-and-pops that rely on foot traffic.Juice Crafters closed entirely and Parakeet Cafe was reduced to takeout and delivery, sales going down 80%. They’ve since recovered and are now off 40% from pre-coronavirus levels.“Little by little we are hoping that we will get back to where we were before COVID,” Goldwasser said.The City Council approved One Paseo, a residential, retail and office complex in 2015. However, a referendum from nearby residents and the mall across the street ensued. Developer Kilroy scaled back the center to its current 0 million version, which opened last year just south of Del Mar Heights Road.Now that it’s open, there are social distancing rules in place. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Lifeguards say a swimmer who disappeared early Saturday in Pacific Beach has been found safe.San Diego Lifeguards say four friends went into the ocean around 1:30 a.m. across from the Ocean Blvd. and Garnet Ave. beach entrance. But one of the friends did not return, prompting searches throughout the morning by U.S. Coast Guard and lifeguard crews.Later Saturday, the missing person was located safe at a friend's house, the Coast Guard told 10News.The swimmer was reportedly celebrating his 21st birthday at the nearby Waterbar before the group went for a swim, according to San Diego Lifeguard Lieutenant Rich Stropky.Though the group told lifeguards the water was only waist deep in the area they were swimming, the swimmer somehow became separated. The person's clothes, wallet, and phone were also left behind when the group returned to shore, Stropky said.Saturday morning, a U.S. Coast Guard cutter and helicopter assisted in the search. 972
