Fewer people are choosing to live in senior housing amid the pandemic. Occupancy has gone down more than 2.5% for two quarters in a row.A trade group for housing providers looked at numbers from April through September of this year and found the senior housing sector is experiencing the largest drop in occupancy on record.“We have heard from people who, you know, their first priority is to get older parents out of more hazardous locations, such as nursing homes, and when they are looking for options in terms of where to move them, part of the option of course is to bring them into their home,” said Danielle Arigoni, Director of AARP Livable Communities.Arigoni says the financial benefits of living in a multi-generational home are getting some people to think about it during the pandemic. But others are avoiding it because of concerns about COVID-19 exposure risks for older family members.Arigoni says there is a renewed interest in accessory dwelling units. That's something UMH Properties is working on now with its "care cottages." The service will let people lease a prefabricated 1 bedroom 1 bath temporary home that you put on your property.“We believe we can get it approved because it's going to be temporary. It's going to be ADA compliant. And with those things in mind, the zoning department of a town should approve bringing the manufactured home onto somebody's lot where it's zoned as a single-family residential lot,” said Sam Landy, CEO of UMH Properties.Landy says COVID-19 sparked the idea for the “care cottages,” but he expects there to be interest in them beyond the pandemic.The company has received dozens of people asking about the care cottages since it started marketing them in September.If you have older family members moving into your home instead, AARP recommends having certain parameters around chores and expectations. FORTVILLE, Ind. — We continue to learn more about COVID-19 especially the symptoms and researchers are finding survivors are still dealing with the virus months after beating it.“Luckily for me, I did not have a severe case,” Nikki Privett said.She was diagnosed with COVID-19 in April.“I thought everything was fine. I thought, OK, the worst part was my eyes hurt to move,” Privett said.She thought she was in the clear until several months later when she says her hair was coming out in chunks.“At the end of June I noticed, you know girls our hair always falls out in the shower, but I noticed that more and more was coming out in my hands and then eventually in July it became handfuls and I was shocked and I was trying to figure out what was happening,” Privett said.“The long-term symptoms are you know there's a lot more of them than we expected,” said Dr. Natalie Lambert, an associate research professor at Indiana School of Medicine.Lambert said they’ve found COVID survivors are feeling a wide range symptom including hair loss.“We're finding that hair loss is temporary so that when the body starts to recover because it's a huge shock to have COVID-19 the virus impacts many different bodily systems at once so your whole-body needs time to recover,” Lambert said.“I hope that all of this is just temporary and that our bodies will learn to fight this,” Privett said.Lambert said a symptom that is really concerning to her and other researchers is vision changes. Fox News host Sean Hannity allegedly received help from the US Department for Housing and Urban Development to carry out multimillion dollar real estate deals, according to a report by The Guardian.The Guardian reported Sunday that Hannity is linked to a web of shell companies that spent at least million buying more than 870 homes across seven states over the past 10 years. The newspaper said it reviewed thousands of pages of public records to piece together Hannity's alleged property portfolio.The Fox News host bought two apartment complexes in Georgia in 2014 for .7 million, according to The Guardian. It reported that HUD helped him get mortgages worth .9 million to fund the purchases by insuring the loans under a National Housing Act program.Hannity didn't mention this link to the department when he interviewed HUD Secretary Ben Carson on Fox News in June 2017.The Guardian reported that some of the properties Hannity acquired were purchased "after banks foreclosed on their previous owners for defaulting on mortgages." The purchases were spread across states including Alabama and New York, according to the report."Hannity is the hidden owner behind some of the shell companies and his attorney did not dispute that he owns all of them," the Guardian reported. The newspaper said those shell companies are limited liability companies, which are "popular among well-known figures such as Hannity who wish to keep their business arrangements private."In an email to The Guardian, Hannity real estate attorney Christopher Reeves said the transactions were highly confidential and said, "most people prefer to keep their legal and personal financial issues private. Mr Hannity is no different."
