Carnival Cruise Lines announced Thursday that they are canceling several cruises until early 2021 due to COVID-19.In a press release, the cruise line company said that all P&O Cruises to the Caribbean were canceled until Jan. 2021, and cruises from and to Southampton, Arcadia, and Aurora were canceled through February.P&O Cruises is part of the Carnival Corporation.“With evolving restrictions on travel from the UK, unfortunately, it is necessary to cancel these itineraries," P&O Cruises president Paul Ludlow said in the news release. "These further cancellations vary according to ship as well as complexity and length of itineraries, advice, and guidance regarding ports of call and current air availability for fly/cruises. CAMPO (CNS) - At least one person was fatally injured in a two-vehicle crash Friday evening on Route 94 in Campo, according to the California Highway Patrol.The crash took place on Route 94 -- Campo Road -- at the intersection with Sheridan Road about 7 p.m., the CHP reported.The person's name was withheld pending family notification. There's no word yet on the gender or age of the victim. No information on other injuries was immediately available.At least one dog was also injured in the crash, the CHP said. Three others were transported to a nearby hospital with injuries.Campo Road was temporarily closed at 9:55 p.m. for the crash and death investigation. The roadway was reopened about 11:05 p.m., the CHP said.Campo is a small town in the southeastern portion of San Diego County. 799

California will end the cash bail system in a sweeping reform for the state. Rather than requiring defendants to pay in order to be released before trial, their release will hinge on an assessment of their risk to public safety."Today, California reforms its bail system so that rich and poor alike are treated fairly," Gov. Jerry Brown said in a statement.Brown signed the bill Tuesday, and the new law goes into effect October 1, 2019.Critics have long contended that the money bail system perpetuates inequality. While some people are able to quickly get out of jail by posting bail, people who aren't able to afford it sit in jail until the court takes action, or until they work with a bail bond agent to secure their freedom, which can leave them in debt."Abolishing money bail and replacing it with a risk-based system will enhance justice and safety. For too long, our system has allowed the wealthy to purchase their freedom regardless of their risk, while the poor who pose no danger languish in jail," said Assemblymember Rob Bonta, one the lawmakers who introduced the bill, in a statement.Under the new law, a pretrial assessment would be done by either court employees or a local public agency that has been contracted to determine a defendant's risk. That entity would assess the likelihood that the person will not appear in court or commit a new crime while released, and would make a recommendation for conditions of release. The pretrial assessment services will not release a person arrested for violent felonies.The California Money Bail Reform Act, also known as Senate Bill 10, passed in the State Senate with a vote of 26-12, and the General Assembly by 42-31."SB 10 puts all Californians on equal footing before the law and makes public safety the only consideration in pretrial detention. This critical reform is long overdue," Toni Atkins, Senate president pro tempore, said in a statement.But the ACLU in California expressed disappointment over the bill, saying it "is not the model for pretrial justice and racial equity that California should strive for.""It cannot guarantee a substantial reduction in the number of Californians detained while awaiting trial, nor does it sufficiently address racial bias in pretrial decision making," said the three executive directors of the California ACLU affiliates, Abdi Soltani (Northern California), Hector Villagra (Southern California) and Norma Chávez Peterson (San Diego & Imperial Counties). CHICAGO (KGTV) -- Police say three people were shot and one person is dead after a shooting at a Starbucks in Chicago Thursday night.According to ABC 7 in Chicago, the shooting happened in the city's Uptown neighborhood at 8:30 p.m. Police say a 12-year-old was transported to the hospital in unknown condition after being shot in the groin. An adult male was shot and took himself to the hospital. CARLSBAD, Calif., (KGTV) -- This afternoon,  friends and family said their final good-byes to Justin Meek, the Coronado native who died in the Borderline Bar shooting on November 8, 2018. On the same day, students at Sage Creek High School read letters of appreciation to their loved ones. One student wrote his message to his older sister who survived the shooting in Thousand Oaks. Teenagers are not known to pour out their feelings. But for Sage Creek High School students, it is a requirement for their English class. As part of a senior assignment called "Project Gratitude," students expressed their thanks to those who helped shape their lives. They were to write a letter, call the recipient, and reflect. “I know I don’t show it often, but I’m so proud to have you as my mom,” Izabella Razmi said.
