BEIJING, Feb. 3 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Vice President Xi Jinping has stressed on Tuesday the importance of studying and applying the Scientific Outlook on Development in the work of government organizations at all levels during the economic downturn. Xi, a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, made the remarks here at a meeting on studying and applying the Scientific Outlook on Development. Xi urged government officials at all levels to summarize their working experiences, improve ruling sufficiency and correct mistakes. Hu, also chairman of the Central Military Commission, made the remarks at a plenary meeting of PLA deputies to the National People's Congress (NPC), the top legislative body. BEIJING, Feb 7 (Xinhua) -- After some parts of the drought-stricken north China embraced the long-awaited rain on Saturday, more rainfall was expected to come on Sunday, said National Meteorological Center (NMC) on Saturday. Rain or snow is forecast for Sunday and next Monday in parts of the northwest and southwest China. They will also spread to the country's north and central regions, according to the NMC. ISTANBUL, Turkey, March 21 (Xinhua) -- The World Water Council (WWC) is ready for China's membership, WWC President Loic Fauchon said here Saturday evening. During his meeting with Chinese Minister of Water Resources Chen Lei on the sideline of the 5th World Water Forum, Fauchon said he welcomes China to "the WWC family," and "we are ready to sign the agreement" which just need a few days to finalize the details of the pact. "We need your experience and your tradition, It will be a nice relation," he added. Chen said China is willing to participate WWC activities and China will shoulder the obligation and responsibility when it becomes a member. Chen invited the president to visit Beijing. Fauchon said he is glad to visit the Chinese capital in May or June, when the both sides are expected to ink the pact. WWC, created by a number of key water institutions in 1996, unites over 300 member organizations from more than 60 countries. It is an international multi-stakeholder platform "to promote awareness, build political commitment and trigger action on critical water issues at all levels."
RIYADH, Feb. 10 (Xinhua) -- Chinese President Hu Jintao met Saudi Arabian King Abdullah bin Abdul-Aziz here Tuesday on deepening the two countries' friendship and cooperation. Hu arrived here earlier in the day at the start of his "journey of friendship and cooperation" to Saudi Arabia and four African countries. In a written statement issued upon his arrival, Hu said he would exchange views with the king on China-Saudi Arabia ties and global and regional issues of common concern, including ways of addressing the international financial crisis. Since China and Saudi Arabia established diplomatic ties in 1990, bilateral relations have developed steadily, with increasing exchange of visits at different levels and expanding cooperation in various sectors.
