So is this what our 500 additional transit cops are choosing to pursue? Terrorizing someone who’s just trying to make a living? This is excessive and heartless. https://t.co/1NWiXzyN94— Antonio Reynoso (@CMReynoso34) November 9, 2019 245

TAMPA, Fla. — The City of Tampa has built a tent city that will house 100 homeless people during the safer-at-home order in Hillsborough County. The camp will be open on Monday. For the next 30 days, Tampa will pay Catholic Charities Diocese of St. Petersburg to run the temporary tent city, called Hillsborough Hope. Tampa officials did not provide the location of the tent city due to safety reasons.Along with the 100 tents, the site will include a mobile laundromat, mobile shower trailers and six portable toilet rentals. Those living in the camp will be fed three meals a day and will have access to on-site medical treatment. The Catholic Charities will also supply the residents with water bottles and hand sanitizer.Hillsborough Hope is open to any homeless person except for registered sex offenders.Anyone who shows up to the camp will be screened for COVID-19. If someone presents symptoms of the coronavirus, they will be referred to BayCare Health System. Each tent is spaced about 5 feet apart and will only house one person.Every person staying at the camp will be issued a wristband that corresponds to their tent number. Anyone accepted in the camp will have to adhere to the safer-at-home order put in place by the county. There will be a 5 p.m. curfew for the residents. 1300

Shortly after the body of 52-year-old Vanita Gray was found in her SUV on Houston Whittier at Hayes on Detroit's east side, her boyfriend drove up to a Detroit police scout car and told officers that someone killed his girlfriend. A source said that Gray's 52-year-old boyfriend, who was armed with a gun, also told police that he shot the person who killed her, but the source says the boyfriend didn't have details to support his claim. The only thing police knew for sure was that Gray was dead from multiple gunshot wounds after someone opened fire on her in her SUV. Someone called 911 around 1:30 a.m. Tuesday to report a vehicle on the side of the road with bullet holes in the windshield.Twenty-one shell casings were found in the area with some of the bullets hitting the glass window of a nearby furniture store. And it didn't take long for police to go from calling Gray's boyfriend a person of interest to the suspect in her murder. Gray and her boyfriend were living together in a home, less than a mile from where she was killed. She was wearing flip flops and lounge clothes. Gray was reportedly employed in a rehab center. Her boyfriend was on disability, according to his relatives. Right now, Gray's boyfriend, who is on probation for retail fraud, has not been charged with her murder. Prosecutors say multimillionaire Jeffrey Epstein's wealth makes him a risk to flee the country or to tamper with the investigation, so he should be detained ahead of his sex trafficking trial. But Epstein's lawyers say he has scrupulously followed the terms of his 2008 plea deal over the past decade-plus and is no longer a danger to anyone. They argued he should be allowed to live pre-trial at his Manhattan mansion -- a home that prosecutors say would be a "gilded cage."The two arguments came to a head in federal court on Monday for Epstein's bail hearing, where each side was given 20 minutes to lay out their positions.US District Court Judge Richard M. Berman said he plans to make a ruling on Thursday. A pre-trial services report filed on Monday recommended that Epstein be detained, Berman said in court Monday.Epstein, 66, has pleaded not guilty to charges of sex trafficking of minors and conspiracy to engage in sex trafficking of minors in alleged incidents between 2002 and 2005.The indictment says that he paid girls as young as 14 to have sex with him at his Upper East Side home and his estate in Palm Beach, Florida, worked with employees and associates to lure the girls to his residences and even paid some of his victims to recruit other girls for him to abuse. The hedge fund manager was arrested July 6 at Teterboro Airport in New Jersey aboard his private jet, which had just landed from Paris. He is currently being held at the Metropolitan Correctional Center, a federal detention center in lower Manhattan.Monday's bail hearing has provided further details about Epstein's past and the extent of his wealth, both of which are shrouded in mystery. In court, prosecutors said that investigators going through Epstein's possessions found an expired foreign passport issued in the 1980s that showed Epstein's photo under a different name. The passport also listed his residence as Saudi Arabia. In addition, prosecutors said they had obtained financial records confirming that Epstein is worth more than 0 million, including a single account with over 0 million. Epstein's defense submitted a financial summary of his assets under seal, and Judge Berman said he was inclined to make it public.Defense highlights 14-year clean recordShortly after his arrest, federal agents executing a search warrant of Epstein's mansion in New York seized a "vast trove" of lewd photographs of young-looking women or girls, prosecutors said in a court filing. That "substantial collection of photographic trophies," prosecutors argued in their bail filing, demonstrated the ongoing danger he poses to the public and is a key reason why he should be detained. The federal charges in the indictment are similar to those Epstein avoided more than a decade ago when he signed a plea agreement with federal prosecutors in Miami. As part of the agreement, he pleaded guilty to two state prostitution charges in 2008, served 13 months in prison and registered as a sex offender.A November 2018 3009
