SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- 2018 was a big year for SeaWorld and new rides opening in San Diego seem to be paying off. In a new report, the company announced its first increase in attendance since 2015. A newly-released report by SeaWorld Entertainment, Inc. found that attendance increased to 22.6 million guests in 2018, up more than eight percent. According to Statista, 2018 marked the first time SeaWorld saw an increase in attendance since 2015. The report comes as SeaWorld San Diego gets ready to open another big attraction this spring. Construction on a new roller coaster, called Tidal Twister, is set to be finished in May. The coaster will feature a figure-8, horizontal design and dueling trains. Riders will be able to sit both backward and forward. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — A girl was killed while walking across Interstate 5 near the San Clemente Border Patrol facility Thursday.It's unclear how the young girl made it onto the roadway. CHP officials said the unaccompanied Hispanic girl was walking northbound on I-5, just south of the border inspection station before 10 a.m.The girl then crossed the freeway, walking westbound through traffic, the CHP said. She was in the number two lane when she was struck by a 2008 Chevrolet driven by a 21-year-old man from San Diego.CHP said the man was driving at about 30 miles per hour when he struck the girl. He tried to avoid her but was not able to apply the brakes in time. He remained at the scene for troopers to arrive.The girl was flown to Scripps Memorial Hospital La Jolla but died of her injuries.CHP officials did not release a name or age of the girl. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A car crashed Monday afternoon into the front of a Pacific Beach 7-Eleven, destroying a portion of the store.According to the San Diego Fire-Rescue Department, the incident happened near Cass Street and Loring Street.Crews said the elderly man who was driving hit the gas instead of the brakes, and the car slammed through a window of the convenience store up to its windshield.The driver, customers, and the clerk working at the counter were not hurt.The car also missed the propane tanks stored in a metal cage outside the store. SAN DIEGO (CNS) - Two San Diego City Council members called Wednesday on California Attorney General Xavier Becerra and District Attorney Summer Stephan to investigate San Diego City Attorney Mara Elliott's possible role in an alleged child sexual abuse cover-up at the San Diego Junior Theatre.Council members Scott Sherman and Vivian Moreno sent a jointly written letter to Becerra and Stephan imploring them to investigate allegations made by attorney Matt Valenti that Elliott improperly shared information on the case with then-Junior Theatre Board member Gil Cabrera, who Valenti claims tried to silence the case's whistleblowers."We are writing to respectfully request your respective offices' review and consideration for appropriate action, as the authority to investigate these complaints falls under the jurisdiction of your departments," their letter states.
