MIAMI, Fla. — A Florida man was arrested and charged after authorities say he bought a sports car with Paycheck Protection Program (PPP) loans.Officials say David Hines, 29, was charged with one count of bank fraud, one count of making false statements to a financial institution and one count of engaging in transactions in unlawful proceeds. The complaints allege that Hines asked for around .5 million in PPP loans through applications to an insured financial institution for different companies. He received .9 million in PPP loans. The complaint says Hines submitted fraudulent loan applications that made numerous false and misleading statements about the companies' payroll expenses. He used those funds, in part, to buy a 8,000 2020 Lamborghini Huracan sports car for himself. Authorities later seized the car and .4 million from bank accounts at the time of the arrest.PPP loans were designed to provide emergency financial assistance to millions of Americans suffering from economic effects from the COVID-19 pandemic. This article was written by Lisette Lopez for WFTS. 1094

Meghan Markle will make a striking feminist statement in her wedding to Prince Harry on Saturday, choosing not to be chaperoned for much of the procession down the aisle of St. George's Chapel, Windsor, CNN has learned. In an unprecedented step for a royal bride in the UK, Markle will walk unescorted down the aisle of the chapel nave, after being met at the West Door by a member of the clergy. She will be accompanied in this first part of the wedding procession only by her bridesmaids and page boys, with the senior church figure walking ahead.Prince Charles will join her when she reaches the Quire, where the main royal guests will be seated. The Prince -- Harry's father -- will walk Markle down the Quire aisle to the foot of the altar. 752

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – A billboard calling for justice in the Breonna Taylor case was vandalized with red paint in Louisville..The public discovered the vandalism to the sign near the city’s Irish Hill neighborhood Tuesday morning, WLKY and WAVE report. However, by Tuesday afternoon, both TV stations say the paint had either been removed from the billboard or it had been replaced. The billboard is one of several erected in the Kentucky city by Oprah Winfrey and her magazine, which featured Taylor on its September issue. She was the first person other than Oprah herself to grace the cover. The signs feature a photo of the 26-year-old woman who was shot and killed by police in her home in March. They also have a call to action – “Demand that the police involved in killing Breonna Taylor be arrested and charged” – and encourage people to visit the website for Until Freedom, a social justice organization created to address systemic and racial injustice.Taylor died on March 13 after three Louisville police officers executing a search warrant used a battering ram to enter her home. The emergency room technician and her boyfriend were in bed. After a brief exchange, Taylor’s boyfriend reportedly fired his gun and then police fired shots, striking Taylor at least eight times. She died in the apartment hallway.Since Taylor’s death, protests have been held across the country, demanding that the officers involved be charged in her killing. Many celebrities other than Oprah have also used their platforms to call for action. For now, the shooting is under investigation by the FBI and Kentucky Attorney General Daniel Cameron. Both are deciding whether criminal charges are warranted in the case. 1708

MARYVILLE, Tenn. – Ruby Tuesday has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection. The casual dining chain says it's pursuing a comprehensive financial and operational restructuring aimed at reducing the company’s current debt and enhancing operations to continue to serve guests in the future. In a statement, Ruby Tuesday CEO Shawn Lederman said the restructuring will allow the business to reposition for long-term stability as it recovers from the unprecedented impact of COVID-19.The restaurant says it will continue serving guests as usual, with increased distancing, cleaning and sanitization protocols in place to ensure safety and peace of mind in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.“This announcement does not mean ‘Goodbye, Ruby Tuesday,’” wrote Lederman. The company also notes that Ruby Tuesday gift cards and “So Connected Rewards” will continue to be valid and retain their value through the bankruptcy process.“Our restructuring demonstrates a commitment to Ruby Tuesday’s future viability as we work to preserve thousands of team member jobs,” Lederman continued in his statement. “Our guests can be assured that during the Chapter 11 process, we will continue to deliver welcoming service and provide a safe environment for guests and team members, while serving fresh, signature products that only Ruby Tuesday can offer. With this critical step in our transformation for long-term financial health – this is ‘Hello’, to a stronger Ruby Tuesday.”Though a timeline for the bankruptcy was not provided, the company says it intends to move through the process as quickly as possible. 1600

MARTINEZ, Calif. – Until recently, not many people had heard about Martinez, a small town east of San Francisco. That is, until a Black Lives Matter mural was vandalized.“We’re really just fighting for our black community members here in Martinez and across the country, to be able to exist in America and globally, without fear,” said Justin Gomez, a community organizer in the California town. “We weren’t surprised that it got vandalized, we were more so just shocked at how brazen it was.”Gomez just wanted to let black community members in Martinez know they mattered when he got a permit to paint a Black Lives Matter mural“I hadn’t even taken off my paint clothes,” said Tati Rae, who helped paint the mural. It was only up for a couple of hours before two people were accused of trying to vandalize it.“This is just kind of a microcosm of everything that’s happening in this country around racism and white supremacy and we got to see that play out right here in our own community,” said Gomez.Nichole Anderson and David Nelson were arrested, accused of painting over the mural. They were charged with multiple misdemeanor counts, including a hate crime charge.“When people are outraged by Black Lives Matter. That’s because they choose not to challenge themselves to understand what it means for Black Lives Matter,” said Kimya Nuru Dennis.Nuru Dennis runs 365 Diversity which teaches antiracism to school districts, corporations, hospitals and more. She believes some white people become emotional when people say Black lives matter because, “This country is founded on white dominance, and anything that challenges white dominance is silenced, threatened, even murdered.”One business had its windows boarded it up and anti-BLM messages painted on the plywood. We asked the business owner about it.“Well number one, if you know the history of this Black Lives Matter thing, it’s basically a socialist move and I really don’t care for socialism,” said Charles Martin, a business owner in Martinez.“It’s brought nothing but trouble to the town, it’s brought nothing but trouble to the United States. People have gotten killed after they put this up. So, when Floyd was buried, that’s where it should have ended,” he said.Others we talked to say racism in Martinez is real and that’s why they painted the mural.“What is political about saying Black people shouldn’t be killed for no reason?” asked Rae.“Our predominantly white population doesn’t feel like it’s an issue, but that’s because they haven’t experienced this town in the way that community members of color have," said Gomez.Recently, a Black Lives Matter mural in New York City was vandalized as well. This is nothing new for Kimya.“I want Americans to stop acting shocked by this stuff. I’m not surprised when white people think it’s a good idea to vandalize Black Lives Matter symbols. It’s a representation of what this country is founded on,” said Nuru Dennis. But for Gomez, it’s an opportunity.“I think right now this is an opportunity for our town to be a model for predominantly white, smaller communities across the country, to show we don’t get a pass just because we have a less than 4% black population. Just because we’re predominantly white and we haven’t seen these issues and the way that they play out in big cities, we all need to come together, and we need to be a part of this system of change.” 3390
