BALTIMORE — The Frederick County State's Attorney's Office in Maryland indicted a man who knowingly transmitted HIV to several women he met on dating sites.According to officials, the Frederick County Police Department started an investigation in 2017 on 34-year-old Rudolph Jericho Smith after different women told authorities that they believed Smith had infected them with HIV.During the department's investigation, officials were able to conduct witness interviews which informed them that Smith knew of his HIV-positive status since 2014. A search warrant for Smith's blood was executed and a detective confirmed his positive status. The department was later notified that Smith continued to meet women on dating sites and had unprotected sex with them without telling them about his status.Smith has been charged with first degree assault, reckless endangerment and knowing transfer of HIV.The Frederick Police Department is asking anyone who may have had a sexual relationship with Smith around or after July 2017 to leave contact information on the 1069

An Ohio man who claimed to be a child who disappeared at age 6 has pleaded guilty to aggravated identity theft and will serve a sentence of two years in prison, minus time served. Twenty-four-year-old Brian Michael Rini, of Medina, will be on probation for a year at the end of his sentence, which includes time served dating to last April. Rini last year pleaded not guilty to identity theft and lying to FBI agents about being Timmothy Pitzen, who disappeared in 2011. As the number of American adults dying of cancer continues to decline, the number who are dying of heart disease is on the rise, according to a new report.Researchers at the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's National Center for Health Statistics examined death certificates filed across the country from 1999 to 2017 for adults 45 to 64, documenting the number of deaths attributed to cancer and heart disease.Cancer deaths dropped 19% from 1999 to 2017 for those adults. Bob and Shirley Hansen were on a fishing trip when they woke up at 3 a.m. Monday to the sound of someone beating on the side of their boat.Bob looked over the side and saw five people in their underwear, he told CNN affiliate KEYT-TV. Then he saw another boat in the distance, fully engulfed in flames."Flames probably 30 feet high. It was totally gone," he said. The first thing he did was call the Coast Guard, he said.The 75-foot commercial diving boat, called the Conception, caught fire Labor Day off the coast of Santa Cruz Island in Southern California.The Hansens were able to rescue the five crew members who made their way to their boat. Eight people have been found dead so far, and 26 are missing.Shirley said some of the rescued crew members told them about the moments on the boat before the fire.
