A controversial mural depicting images of slavery and dead Native Americans at a San Francisco high school will be left in place but covered with solid panels. The San Francisco Unified School District Board of Education voted 4-3 to cover the "Life of Washington" mural at George Washington High School without destroying it.The vote on Tuesday amends a June decision to paint over the mural "unless doing so would result in undue delay," the school district said in a news release. The mural was created in 1935 by Victor Arnautoff and has stirred controversy because of depictions such as enslaved Africans working in cotton fields on George Washington's estate and white settlers stepping over the body of a dead Native American, according to a fact sheet posted on the school district's website."Where we all agree is that the mural depicts the racist history of America, especially in regards to African Americans and Native Americans. It is important that we all share the agreement and acknowledgement of racism, discrimination, and the dehumanizing of people of color and women in American history," SFUSD President Stevon Cook said in a press release. The mural will no longer be on public view at the school but will be digitized so that art historians can access it. 1287

"The President, Vice President and all civil Officers of the United States, shall be removed from Office on Impeachment for, and Conviction of, Treason, Bribery, or other high Crimes and Misdemeanors."The U.S. Constitution spells out a detailed process for Congress to follow in order to impeach a president or members of the administration. On Tuesday, Speaker Nancy Pelosi announced a formal impeachment inquiry into President Donald Trump after reports surfaced that Trump called the Ukrainian president to investigate candidate Joe Biden's son. Here is the process to remove a president. ImpeachmentThe process in the House is a simple one. First, House committees will conduct investigations, hold hearings, and go through a very similar process as a normal piece of legislation would. Generally, the House Judiciary Committee would hold such hearings. Then, the impeachment would go to the full House of Representatives where a simply majority -- 218 out of 435 members --would be needed to impeach a president. But just because a president is impeached does not mean the president is removed from office, as Bill Clinton was impeached by the House, but not convicted. ConvictionWith the House being held by a majority of Democrats, it is possible that the impeachment process could reach the conviction stage. To convict, the Senate will hold a trial with the Chief Justice of the U.S. Supreme Court (John Roberts) presiding. The Senate would then need two thirds of its members to vote in convicting the president (67 out of 100 members). With Republicans holding the majority, it is not likely that Trump would be removed from office. Past impeachment inquiriesAlthough no president has ever been removed from office through conviction, a few have come close. In 1868, Andrew Johnson was one vote shy of being convicted in the Senate. Richard Nixon opted to resign over the Watergate scandal instead of face impeachment in the House. Bill Clinton, like Johnson, was impeached by the House, but not convicted by the Senate for lying under oath for having sex with a White House intern. 2106
7-Eleven Day typically means free Slurpees for everyone, but this year's celebration turned out more special than usual for one Missouri family.Rachel Langford of St. Louis gave birth to a baby girl on July 11 -- yes, 7/11.That's not all, baby J'Aime Brown was born at 7:11 pm, weighing seven pounds and 11 ounces.Langford, who also has a six-year-old son, told CNN she kept on seeing the numbers 7 and 11 during her pregnancy, but didn't think it meant anything."I thought it was weird at first, and I didn't know that (the numbers) meant so much," she said. "A lot of the times (during the pregnancy) I would look at the clock and it was 7:11."Although a bit "freaked out," both mom and baby are doing well.Langford says she even plans on telling the convenience store chain about the coincidence. 811
A day at the beach turned into a frightening rescue for one 8-year-old boy after the giant unicorn-shaped raft he was playing on suddenly drifted out to sea.Declan O'Connor found himself holding on for life as high winds swept him further into the Atlantic Ocean, the unicorn's head and horn serving as a stand-in sail.Luckily for the boy, a team of rescuers were quickly on scene and retrieved him. Local rescue chief Tony Young credited the boy's decision to stick with the unicorn —a wise move, or else he might've drowned."We've rescued dozens of these things over the years, but this was the first time there was actually a little kid attached to it," Young told CNN affiliate 694
