(KGTV) - City leaders in El Cajon want to add harsher penalties to punish stores that sell tobacco products to underage customers.Current law says stores cannot sell tobacco or nicotine related products to anyone under the age of 21.Under El Cajon's current Tobacco Retail License statute, any store caught selling will face either a fine or a 30 days suspension of their license for the first offense.A second offense brings a 90-day suspension. The third offense bumps that up to a year. If a store is caught selling to underage customers four times in five years, their license gets revoked.But some city leaders feel that's not harsh enough."I think that they looked at the ,000 fine and said that's just the cost of doing business," says City Councilman Gary Kendrick. "I think it's greed. These stores are profiting from the future suffering of our children, and I am going to stop it."Kendrick wants to make the first offense a 90-day suspension and raise the fine. He also wants more enforcement.The move comes after 15 stores got citations during enforcement stings during the spring. That's a big spike from previous years where as few as one store was cited.Of the 15 stores cited, eight are filing appeals. Six paid the fine for the first offense, and one store took a 90-day suspension for a second offense."This is a huge problem," says Kendrick.But store owners say more punitive penalties are not the solution."Is that going to solve the problem? I don't think so," says Isam Habib who owns the Ranch Liquor store on Washington Avenue."What can you do? When you have to hire employees in and out, and they're young, you train them, you teach them, and they make a mistake," he says.Habib says store owners don't think they should lose a large chunk of their business for one mistake."We just gotta check the IDs," he says. Dozens of trucks and thousands of volunteers delivered more than 260,000 Christmas wreaths to Arlington National Cemetery to honor fallen heroes.The rain Saturday didn't stop the day of service, which was made possible by the Wreaths Across America organization.  "If you look across this field of stones, it's massive, but we want to make sure that every individual receives a wreath and their name is spoken out loud,” says Karen Worcester, executive director of Wreaths Across America.Larry Landon, a Boy Scout troop leader, donated his time, unboxing and placing wreaths with 14 of his Boy Scouts.“Our troop unloaded trucks,” he says. “Over 36,000 wreaths were laid here at Arlington, with the help of these boys.”It’s a tradition in its 27th year, spanning all 50 states and into 26 countries. (KGTV) - A former El Cajon high school teacher is in custody on suspicion of sexually assaulting five young victims and attempting to lure a sixth, including two students, the San Diego County Sheriff's Department said Friday.38-year-old Dustin Sniff, also known as Dustin Stevens, is suspected of multiple counts of assaulting a minor, deputies said. Charges include rape by force/fear and oral copulation by force.The alleged victims were between 16 and 22 years old. Sniff is a former teacher at Christian High School, a private evangelical school in El Cajon. None of the assaults happened on campus, according to investigators.A student told 10News Sniff taught Film and Bible classes, and was well liked. The student said Sniff abruptly left the school about two years ago, around the time of the last reported incident.Some of the victims knew Sniff from a website called Model Mayhem, deputies said in a news release.Deputies said anyone who may be a victim of a similar crime or has information about the cases should call the Sheriff's Sex Assault Unit at 858-285-6222. 1106

Lindsey Graham, R-South Carolina, said he's confident that Republicans have enough votes to confirm a President Donald Trump's Supreme Court justice nominee."We've got the votes to confirm Justice Ginsburg's replacement before the election," Graham told Sean Hannity on Monday. "We're going to move forward in the committee, we're going to report the nomination out of the committee to the floor of the United States Senate so we can vote before the election. (KGTV) - A husband pleaded guilty Tuesday to trying to poison his wife with a heavy metal at their East County home, court officials said.Race Uto, 27, admitted to three counts of premeditated attempted murder in an El Cajon courtroom, according to San Diego County District Attorney's office spokesperson Tanya Sierra.Prosecutors said Uto gave his wife thallium, a metal found in rat poison and ant killers.RELATED: Warrant reveals troubled marriage in poisoning case10News obtained a search warrant indicating Brigida Uto became mysteriously ill in September 2017. She suffered weakness and hair loss, and was eventually near death, according to the warrant. Friends also indicated in a GoFundMe account she suffered nerve and organ damage.Investigators with the FBI, NCIS and San Diego County HazMat determined Brigida had been poisoned by someone with access to her food and drinks. The warrant also showed that Race had an affair while he was deployed in the Navy, and that the couple had gone through counseling.Race Uto was arrested in March 2018. He is scheduled to be sentenced on Mar. 14.Brigida Uto is a special education teacher in the Mountain Empire School District and the mother of a young boy, according to the GoFundMepage.
