SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A La Jolla High School student was arrested Friday for threatening a school shooting this week.San Diego Police were made aware of a social media threat Thursday, however, police said the 15-year-old student made the threat Wednesday "to conduct a shooting at the school."The student was contacted Friday, SDPD said. Police searched the student's home but did not find any firearms. Police did not say if they believed the threat to be credible, but that it warranted investigation.Police said the student has been placed in Juvenile Hall."This is absolutely an example of how ‘See something, Say something’ is supposed to work," said SDPD Chief Michael Marquez. "Students warned administrators a threat had been made, and school leaders notified all parents of this report. Multiple parents then spoke with their students and uncovered potential evidence of a threat. In the end, it was this evidence which allowed police to take swift action this morning."Police said the student was already serving a suspension for a separate incident. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A Hillcrest woman says the sounds that wake her up every day also make her dread going into her own home.After retiring, Mary Alsop moved from New Jersey two years ago and bought a condo on Centre Street."I was going to read all these books I said I was going to read," said Alsop.But her retirement dream has been interrupted by a constant stream of announcements from the Hillcrest branch of the DMV, starting around 8 in the morning and ending sometime past 6 at night.  A woman's voice can be heard rattling off ticket numbers and the windows that customers should report to."It's endless, repetitive and numbing," said Alsop.In late February, several loudspeakers were installed outside the DMV building. Between her condo and the DMV office are trees, a row of condos and apartments, along with four lanes of traffic and a large median.  Yet, when 10News was in her condo, those sounds could clearly be heard in her bedroom. The joy of reading is now a chore."It intrudes on your thinking and concentration," said Alsop.Shutting the windows reduces some of the noise, but makes it stuffy inside.Alsop isn't alone.  On the app Nextdoor, neighbors have been voicing their frustration for months.  Alsop says she and others have complained in person and online.  She says a few times, the volume has been turned down, only to go back up days later."I"m tremendously stressed out.  I just want my home back," said Alsop.A DMV spokesperson emailed 10news saying they've already agreed to turn down the volume.  10news responded, informing them the neighbors still feel the noise is too loud.  We are awaiting their response.  1698

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — A local woman is suing the Greyhound bus company after an unscheduled stop allowed border agents to come on the bus and question the citizenship of passengers. Rocio Cordova was traveling from San Diego to Phoenix in November 2017 when her bus was stopped.Her lawyer, Darren Robbins, tells 10News, “Well this practice was brought to our attention and our client was one of the people subjected to these warrantless searches conducted without probable cause.”RELATED: 'Minutemen' wants troops at border gaps near CampoHe continued to say these immigration raids have been happening on multiple different Greyhound buses. Cordova is accusing Greyhound of violating state consumer protection laws by allegedly consenting to racial profiling by law enforcement officers. Cordova is a United States citizen, however, watched people on the bus around her questioned based on their race, according to her lawyer, “it is highly invasive and inappropriate to facilitate such action of law enforcement officials against its own passengers”. The complaint was served to Greyhound on Friday.Robbins is now waiting for their response, “the best response would be they'll refrain from any additional illegal behavior and stop allowing this kind of warrantless searches to take place on greyhound facilities or Greyhound buses,” he tells 10News.  1388

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A man reportedly attacked by four teenagers near Petco Park died Monday morning, family members tell 10News. 56-year-old Edward Leon Starland died several weeks after being attacked and beaten on November 18 around 2 p.m. Several teenagers, including 19-year-old Dominick Wells and three juvenile females ages 14, 15 and 17 were all taken into custody on felony battery charges. RELATED: Arrests made in attack near Petco Park that left man with serious injuriesStarland was found unresponsive after witnesses say he was involved with an argument with the group before being thrown to the ground and attacked.
