TOKYO, June 14 (Xinhua) -- Foreign ministers of China, Japan and South Korea agreed here Saturday to strengthen trilateral cooperation for better political, economic and cultural relations.     Chinese Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi, Japanese Foreign Minister Masahiko Komura and South Korean Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Yu Myung Hwan reached the agreement at the second trilateral meeting of foreign ministers from the three countries. "The trilateral cooperation is facing new opportunities and is standing at a threshold," Yang told his counterparts during the meeting held later in the afternoon.     "Further development of the trilateral cooperation is in line with the expectation of the three peoples and is conducive to peaceful development of the three countries and the region," Yang said.     He called for cherishing of the opportunities to actively push forward the trilateral cooperation toward the direction of peaceful coexistence, comprehensive cooperation, mutual benefit and common development.     Yang called on the three sides to keep their respective political promises, improve understanding and trust in each others, expand logistical and financial cooperation as well as social and cultural exchanges and deepen communications on regional cooperation and significant international and local issues so as to further improve the mechanism of trilateral cooperation. They agreed to carry out new cooperation on disaster relief.     The three ministers agreed to keep regular communications between leaders and foreign ministers of the three countries and scheduled a meeting of heads of government of the three countries in Japan in September.     The three ministers also agreed to strengthen cooperation on promoting peace and stability on the Korean Peninsula, combating climate change, environment protection, food and energy safety, assistance to African development and the United Nations' reform.     Komura and Yu wished the Beijing Olympics a great success.

TOKYO, May 1 (Xinhua) -- Japanese Prime Minister Yasuo Fukuda met on Thursday with 10 representatives of Chinese students studying in Japan, delivering friendly messages before the upcoming visit of Chinese President Hu Jintao to Japan.     "We warmly welcome President Hu to Japan," said Fukuda in the talks with the Chinese students at his residence.     He said that despite some problems in bilateral ties, he hoped that the Chinese students will, under whatever circumstances, recognize the importance of Japan-China relations and strive for their development.     China is a major power in the world, and the performance of a major power has direct bearing on world stability, said the Japanese prime minister, adding that Japan hopes to foster a relationship with China that helps make joint efforts for world stability. BEIJING, Oct. 13 (Xinhua) -- Over 500 participants of Asian and European Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) gathered here on Monday for a three-day forum to discuss issues covering social and ecological justice.     Addressing the opening ceremony of the seventh Asia and Europe People's Forum (AEPF), Chinese Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi believed the forum participants would follow the principle of equality and mutual respect, fully exchange views on subjects related to the theme of the meeting, seek common ground while putting aside differences, increase consensus, make constructive contributions and work together to make the event productive. In addition, the forum would also make a unique contribution to maintaining world peace, stability and prosperity and promoting human progress and development, he said.     Zhang Zhijun, president of the China NGO Network for International Exchanges (CNIE), said the forum was faced with good opportunities at the present time when Asia and Europe enjoyed increasing cooperation.     The forum should continue to exert its own characteristics to strengthen understanding between Asian and European peoples, Zhang said.     He said the forum was a platform for exchanging experiences and ideas, for seeking solutions to some difficult issues, and for enhancing the healthy growth of Asian-European cooperation.     Zhang, on behalf of the organizing committee of the AEPF, expressed his gratitude for the Chinese government's support to the forum.
