SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — A mysterious monolith that appeared in a San Diego parking lot earlier this week is gone, the structure torn down by a group of people in an incident captured on social media Tuesday night. The monolith was in the Scripps Ranch Marketplace parking lot. Similar structures have been popping up all over the country and the world since mid-November. In videos posted to social media, a large group of people can be seen pushing over and then carrying away the shiny, sleek object late Tuesday evening. SDPD told ABC 10News that they did receive a call about the incident but because it's unclear who owns the monolith they weren't able to file a report and there is no ongoing investigation. 718
SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A new report is shedding light on what the typical million home looks like in San Diego. According to Zillow, million in San Diego can buy a single-family home that has 2,410 square feet, four bedrooms and two and a half bathrooms. Families in Chula Vista can get more for their money, where million can buy a 3,890 square foot home with five bedrooms and four and a half bathrooms. RELATED: City fee could be making rents higher in smaller unitsIn contrast, the same amount of money in San Francisco can only buy a one bedroom condo with less than 900 square feet. On a slightly lighter note, million can typically buy a 1,900 square foot, three bedroom, two bathroom home in Los Angeles, Zillow reports. In the U.S., the typical million home is a detached single-family house with about 2,200 square feet with four bedrooms and two and a half bathrooms. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — A San Diego International Airport spokesperson said Wednesday a reported paging that went viral was made by mistake.Video on Twitter claimed to show San Diego Airport's messaging system announce a page for "Epstein Coverup" on a digital display. The text read: "Airport is paging Epstein Coverup please meet your party at terminal two east by American Airlines."An airport spokesperson told 10News that the message was a mistake, and steps were "being taken to avoid such mistakes in the future."RELATED: Travel website ranks San Diego International as best airport in the US"San Diego International Airport’s paging system is a vital communications resource for airport users in a sometimes busy, hectic environment. Airport users depend on this system to reach loved ones or receive notifications in a timely manner. In this instance, our employee made a mistake. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A local marketing firm is moving from the East Village to Sherman Heights, and hoping the move can bring the same kind of renewal they saw in their old home to that neighborhood."I think it has a lot of potential," says Reid Carr, the CEO ofRed Door Interactive.Carr started his company in the East Village in 2002, as Petco Park was being built. He's seen the neighborhood grow up over the past two decades, spurred by business investment."To people who come down here, it feels like it changed overnight," he says. "But to be in it, it ebbs and flows with people coming and going and really figuring itself out. It's pretty spectacular."He thinks the same thing can happen in Sherman Heights, one of 35 "Opportunity Zones" in San Diego County."I think it needs this kind of commercial and business corridor to build it up," says Carr. "We're trying to be the first footprint there to do it."Opportunity Zones are federally designated areas that give companies tax breaks on capital investment. The goal is to spread businesses across communities."It signals the areas in our county that are really ripe for investment," says Nikia Clarke, the Vice President of Economic Development for the San Diego Regional Economic Development Corporation."Companies are looking at places like Sherman Heights as the next high growth parts of our region," she adds.But Sherman Heights comes with a unique set of challenges. The neighborhood was founded in 1868 and is a historic district. That means companies need to comply with design and architecture rules, so they fit into the community.Companies like Jack in the Box and Walmart opened locations in the neighborhood in the past few years, and found success within the restrictions."As a small neighborhood, it's important to us that businesses want to understand where they're coming into and want to work with the fabric of the neighborhood," says Sherman Heights Historian Louise Torio. "We want something designed today that fits into the rhythm of the streetscape."Carr says his business is excited to become a part of the neighborhood and plans to honor the historic feel.He bought the lot near 25th and Market for .2 million and plans another million to renovate the existing buildings."We're going to embrace what's there, revitalize it in some ways and respect it in a lot of other ways," he says.The company hopes to start construction this July and move in by April of 2021. 2460
SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — A police pursuit involving a man who failed to yield that started in the Los Angeles area took authorities all the way to San Diego Thursday.The suspect, later identified as Karl Flores, 34, was driving a red Honda Civic when he failed to yield on Washington Boulevard at about 11 a.m., according to California Highway Patrol. The man had first been reported as a stolen vehicle suspect, but police eventually said that was not the case.Flores then took police on a pursuit through the Los Angeles area, at one point hitting a pedestrian riding a scooter. The pedestrian suffered non-life threatening injuries, according to police.WATCH THE PURSUIT LIVE:Flores continued into the Inglewood area before avoiding a PIT maneuver by police that sent the Honda spinning, KABC reported. He continued fleeing police, avoided more PIT maneuver attempts, and drove from southbound Interstate 405 to Interstate 5 into San Diego.The vehicle stopped on I-5 near Las Pulgas Rd. at about 1:30 p.m., prompting a police standoff and Sig Alert was issued for both directions of I-5 at Las Pulgas Rd. CHP said it appeared the vehicle had run out of gas.
