The Cleveland Cavaliers announced today that Kevin Love will not be playing in Game 7 on Sunday against the Boston Celtics.The decision came after Love knocked heads with Celtics rookie Jayson Tatum during the first quarter of last night's game. The team said Love was evaluated before their flight to Boston and is experiencing concussion-like symptoms. The City of Glendale plans to vote on adding a permanent American flag to the top of Thunderbird Mountain. The Glendale Chamber Military and Veterans Affairs Committee sent a proposal to the city council asking to erect a flag. The committee will also manage it. Thunderbird Mountain falls within a conservation park, which means it is to be left as is. The picnic tables, garbage cans, and signage are all a part of the city's master plan, which is why they are allowed in the park. "We want people to enjoy it but not to disturb the wildlife the plants and not erect any structures in the park either, at least if they're not part of the master plan," said Vice-Mayor Lauren Tolmachoff. She is one of the council members voting to hold off on the change. "Not everybody on the council felt there was a conservation national park because there are signs and roads, and I disagree with that," she said. "You know there are roads in national parks, but they are still to be preserved and protected."No word on when the council will take an official vote, but it will likely be before the end of June.  1153

The Department of Veteran's Affairs (VA) is facing a huge undertaking as COVID-19 vaccines roll out to the general public.More than 418,000 healthcare workers and 10 million patients will eventually get the COVID-19 vaccine through the VA.The department received 73,000 doses of Pfizer's COVID-19 vaccine this week, and residents and staff at long term communities run by the department are first in line to be inoculated.There are about 17,500 veterans living in VA long-term care facilities across the country, and several thousand more work in those centers.The vaccine could not have arrived sooner for those staff members and patients."I know a lot of VA medical centers are going through COVID surges right now, alongside with their communities," said Dr. Jane Kim, the Chief Consultant for Preventive Medicine at the VA.Most vaccines are mandatory for military members. For now, the COVID-19 vaccine is still voluntary. That's likely due to the limited supply of the vaccine and because it's only under Emergency Use Authorization right now.Still, veteran doctors want to reassure their patients."I got the vaccine yesterday," Kim said. "I had a sore arm yesterday, but my arm feels good today. I feel fine today. I would recommend this vaccine to my family and also my patients when it's available for them and it's their turn."More than 5,500 veteran patients and 87 VA staff members have died of COVID-19 since the start of the pandemic. That doesn't include state-run veteran's homes.The VA is not responsible for providing COVID-19 vaccines to those state-run veteran's homes. 1596

The coronavirus vaccine has been administered to 1 million Americans in the last 10 days, the CDC reported on Wednesday.The first vaccinations were administered to Americans early last week after Pfizer’s coronavirus vaccine received an emergency use authorization. Pfizer said last week that it had distributed 2.9 million doses of the vaccine throughout the United States.Earlier this week, Moderna’s coronavirus vaccine candidate began being administered to Americans.So far, there have been over 9.4 million doses of the vaccine distributed throughout the US. Getting them administered is taking some time.Although 1 million vaccinations is a significant milestone, it is a fraction of the vaccinations needed to stop the spread of the virus. The first round of vaccinations are intended for 24 million Americans who work in health care settings or who live or work assisted living facilities. The next step will be to vaccinate 21 million Americans over the age of 75 and 30 million front-line workers, such as teachers, first responders and grocery store employees.“While we celebrate this historic milestone, we also acknowledge the challenging path ahead,” CDC director Robert Redfield said in a statement. “There is currently a limited supply of COVID-19 vaccine in the U.S., but supply will increase in the weeks and months to come. The goal is for everyone to be able to easily get vaccinated against COVID-19 as soon as large enough quantities are available.”Those who have received their first dose of the vaccine will need to return for a booster in 21 to 28 days, depending on the vaccine administered. 1625
