A full moon occurs once every 29.5 days, so blue moons occur sporadically — about once every two-and-a-half years.When the full moon peaks at 8:37 ET on Saturday, it will mark the second full moon this month. The first full moon occurred on March 2. Take a good look, because it will be awhile before we see one again —Oct. 31, 2020, to be exact.It will actually be the second time this year we've experienced a blue moon. January also saw two blue moons — the first on Jan. 2, the second Jan. 31.2018 marks the first time since 1999 we've seen two blue moons in a single year. SAN YSIDRO, Calif. (KGTV) -- San Diego Police are investigating Monday night's shoot out at the border at the San Ysidro Port of Entry. Christopher Barajas said he was pulling up to the line to head into the U.S, but turned back. "Everyone started screaming before I even get to the line," said Barajas. It happened around 7:30 p.m. when police and Customs and Border Protection officers say the driver of a white pick up truck refused to stop at a secondary inspection area. Instead, the twenty-three-year-old allegedly accelerated and tried to drive straight through the port into the United States before being blocked by a vehicle. Police say the driver started firing shots from inside his truck and then got out and continued shooting at officers. Seven C-B-P officers returned fire, hitting the man at least once. Officers and San Diego Fire Rescue crews performed life saving measures, but the suspect died at the scene."If they didn't find any individuals in there, smuggling, he was probably hiding something in there," said Barajas.White plastic garbage bags could be seen sitting on the truck's tailgate, but police haven't released any information about what, if anything, was found. Tuesday, only the Sentri and Ready lanes remained open on the northbound side. Traffic heading into Mexico was not affected. (KGTV) - A heartbroken dog owner in Santee is hoping to warn others after coyotes attacked her dog while she was walking him on a leash.Presley, an eight-year-old Silky Terrier, was small with a big personality. "Just a loving dog and wild personality. He would always protect me," said Michelle Cimmarrusti.The instinct was on display around 5 a.m. Tuesday. On Palm Glen Drive, on the edge of her condo complex, Cimmarrusti was taking Presley out for a quick walk. Her retractable leash was stretched out about five feet. "On the sidewalk near a bush, I felt Presley tug. Thought he wanted to sniff a bush. That's when the two dogs came out," said Cimmarrusti.Cimmarrusti quickly realized they weren't dogs, but aggressive coyotes."Just horrifying. My brain just went numb at the time," said Cimmarrusti.The protective Presley barked and lunged. As she pulled frantically on Presley, the clasp on her collar broke, and Presley took off. Cimmarrusti says it was a blur, but Presley and the coyotes ended up in the street before disappearing into the complex."I kept screaming at the top of my lungs for his name," said Cimmarrusti.About ten minutes later, a neighbor found a bloodied Presley, who died in Cimmarrusti's arms on the way to the pet emergency clinic."I just couldn't get to him quick enough," she said, choking back tears.She has since learned another dog was killed by a coyote in the same area weeks ago. Experts say coyotes attacking a leashed dog is a sign they're getting more aggressive in an area and getting less afraid of humans, whether it's food scarcity or the unintentional feeding of coyotes."Please be cautious. If I can help one person and their dog, I'll be grateful. Keep them on a tighter leash. Don't let them far and keep aware of your surroundings," said Cimmarrusti. 1825

San Francisco may be the next U.S. city to allow 16- and 17-year-olds to vote. Residents will vote on the matter this November.If the measure is passed, the young people would be able to participate in local elections, which usually don't have high turnout.“They've seen that by extending voting rights to people of that age, they've actually increased the level of interest and attention in local politics, not only in those who are newly able to vote, but among their parents and their communities as well,” said Brandon Klugman, Vote 16 Campaign Manager at Generation Citizen.Critics question if teens are mature enough and educated enough to vote.Researchers in Austria, where the national voting age starts at 16, found teens are not likely to be less educated or less motivated to participate in voting.The campaign Vote 16 USA says teens are not likely to make rushed or stressed decisions when it comes to voting.They say teens are more likely to be in a stable environment, where they're surrounded by family, peers, and educators.“In a stable environment, it's great to establish the habit of voting, whereas at 18 on the other hand, most folks are in some sort of intense transition, whether that's joining the workforce, starting college, moving away from home, or going after some sort of transition,” said Klugman.Advocates say this will help in creating a life-long habit of voting.Oakland, California, is considering a similar measure, but it would only allow young voters to participate in school board elections.Several cities in Massachusetts and Maryland have passed similar measures.
