BEIJING, Dec. 10 (Xinhua) -- Pharmaceutical producers will risk having their operation license revoked if they use prohibited chemicals as medicine ingredients or involved in fake drug production, China's drug regulator said in a circular Saturday.The State Food and Drug Administration said it would name and shame pharmaceutical companies if they make phoney medicine and withdraw the operation licenses of pharmacies if they intentionally sell unqualified drugs.The circular came in the wake of several counterfeit medicine scandals uncovered by Chinese police in the past few months.On Nov. 4, police seized more than 65 million imitation medicinal tablets and arrested 114 suspects in a cross-provincial raid on counterfeit drugs.In October, police raided on an illegal drug production and sale network and ended up with the seizure of 190 million yuan (29.9 million U.S. dollars) worth of counterfeit drugs.The suspects were found to have used starch or corn powder as ingredients for bogus medicine, or re-packaged expired pharmaceuticals.Police also found animal feed and chemical pigments in the counterfeit products.

NANJING, Dec. 8 (Xinhua) -- Chinese stargazers will have their best view of a total lunar eclipse in 10 years on Saturday if weather permits, the Zijinshan Astronomical Observatory under the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) said Thursday.Wang Sichao, a research fellow with the observatory, said during the total eclipse, the full moon will not completely disappear from the Earth's shadow, but will take on a brilliant bronze color.He said the eclipse will be the best one seen in China since the last one occurred on Jan. 10, 2001."Theoretically, viewers can observe the eclipse from nearly everywhere in the country on Saturday," said the astronomer.He said the eclipse, the second this year, will last for 51 minutes. BEIJING, Jan. 10 (Xinhuanet) -- Conflicts among hundreds of scalpers raring to stock up on the new iPhone 4S are casting a shadow over the gadget's launch on the Chinese mainland on Friday.Over the weekend, scalpers from two groups bickered and shoved each other when standing in line to purchase iPhone 4 at Apple's Sanlitun store, said witnesses.Workers from two Apple stores in Beijing told China Daily the stores have not started online bookings for the iPhone 4S so far."More than 1,000 of us have gathered to buy all the available iPhone 4 this morning," said a scalper hawking the phone outside the Sanlitun store on Sunday."We'll come again on Friday for iPhone 4S. You'll have no hope of getting an iPhone 4 or 4S from the store, but only from us."The scalpers are asking 4,450 yuan (705 U.S. dollars) for an 8-gigabyte iPhone 4, and 5,450 yuan for a smuggled iPhone 4S. BEIJING, Jan. 21 (Xinhua) -- The State Grid Corporation of China (SGCC), the country's largest electric power transmission and distribution company, said Saturday that the power supply will be sufficient during the upcoming Spring Festival holiday.Thermal power plants currently have 89.34 million tonnes of coal, which is enough for 20 days of power generation.Meanwhile, the country's electricity consumption is expected to fall by 40 percent during the holiday which lasts from Jan. 22 to Jan. 28, as many factories suspend production during the period, SGCC said.The company said it will keep a close eye on the cold weather, strengthen inspections and maintenance of high-voltage grids, and take precautions to minimize the impact of snow and freezing rain on power transmission.
