SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A family moving from Philadelphia to San Diego says they had their belongings stolen within the first 30 minutes of being here.The family says it all happened in the parking lot of a Target store in Mission Valley. The cargo carrier atop their car, stolen from the roof.The family says they think the suspects who stole the items may be professionals. Michael Kaminis says he thinks the thieves knew what they were doing when they unhooked the carrier without leaving a mark. “I was in shock, the kids were crying.”Kaminis says despite the setback, his family is staying positive. “You can’t let a thing like this deter a big life decision, they’re still on board, they love the idea of San Diego. You can’t let things like this shake your faith in humanity and people.” 798

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A 17-year-old has been arrested for social media threats to a Carmel Valley high school.San Diego Police said the juvenile was taken into custody Monday at school during an investigation into threatening comments issued online against Canyon Crest Academy, which is part of the San Dieguito Union High School District.The teenager has been placed in Juvenile Hall for criminal threats, SDPD said.RELATED: Timeline shows threats made against San Diego County schoolsIn a letter to parents Monday, Principal Brett Killeen said no "credible nor specific threat was made."The students were concerned about what another student has been posting on social media.  Though no credible nor specific threat was made toward any specific student nor our school, these students did the right thing in reporting their concerns to us.  The San Diego Police Department is investigating this issue, and the student who posted the content is not on campus.We are proud that CCA is a safe school with an inclusive and caring culture.  We do encourage families to talk to teens about what they may be posting online, because threatening content will be taken seriously, even if posted in jest, and it ultimately disrupts the lives of those who are concerned about the content, as well as the person who used poor judgment in posting the content.  1383

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -  A driver led CHP officers on an hour-long pursuit from Southern Orange County to Mission Valley Wednesday night.The chase ended on the onramp from southbound I-805 to westbound I-8.Ray Scheidnes, with California Highway Patrol, says the chase started in the San Juan Capistrano area when they received reports of someone driving erratically just after 6:30 p.m.When they tried to pull over the driver, she instead drove south on I-5 into San Diego County and eventually onto I-8.  The driver even called into 9-1-1 dispatch and tried to explain why she wasn't stopping.“I believe that she was afraid to pull over, mentioned something about possibly having some previous run-ins with law enforcement that she didn't think went too well,” Scheidnes said.Scheidnes also added they’re not quite sure why she eventually stopped in Mission Valley.“The vehicle didn't seem to run out of gas or have any mechanical problems, just came to a stop, I think she just decided to pull over,” he said.CHP says the driver is an Orange County resident. She has not been identified. There are no immediate signs of drugs or alcohol, but she could be facing charges of resisting arrest and failure to yield.  1247

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — A girl was killed while walking across Interstate 5 near the San Clemente Border Patrol facility Thursday.It's unclear how the young girl made it onto the roadway. CHP officials said the unaccompanied Hispanic girl was walking northbound on I-5, just south of the border inspection station before 10 a.m.The girl then crossed the freeway, walking westbound through traffic, the CHP said. She was in the number two lane when she was struck by a 2008 Chevrolet driven by a 21-year-old man from San Diego.CHP said the man was driving at about 30 miles per hour when he struck the girl. He tried to avoid her but was not able to apply the brakes in time. He remained at the scene for troopers to arrive.The girl was flown to Scripps Memorial Hospital La Jolla but died of her injuries.CHP officials did not release a name or age of the girl. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — A fan was removed from Petco Park Wednesday, after using "foul language" toward a player.As the San Diego Padres took on the Arizona Diamondbacks, the unnamed fan berated a player on the field. The player was Diamondbacks right fielder Adam Jones, according to the Arizona Republic.Upon hearing the fan's language during a play in the fifth inning, Jones spoke with security to remove the fan, the Republic reported.RELATED: After nearly 30 years, Germany's San Diego Padres-themed bar closes"On the street, they’d never do that. In the ballpark when you’ve paid your admission, there’s no need for all that stuff. The second I hear somebody cussing us out, you’re gone. I could care less that they’re gone. That’s just how it is," Jones, who is a native of San Diego, told the Republic. "I made a nice play, and just hearing the B-word, F-word, that’s not baseball talk. So … he gone.”The Padres confirmed a fan was removed, adding the guest code of conduct is verbally stated twice per game."Consistent with our club and MLB policies, a fan was removed from the game yesterday for using foul language toward a player on the field," Craig Hughner, Padres director of communications, said in a statement.
