The man accused of pursuing and killing 20-year-old Mollie Tibbetts had worked four years at an Iowa dairy farm based on false identification, his employer said Wednesday."What we learned in the last 24 hours is that our employee was not who he said he was," said Dane Lang, the co-owner and manager of Yarrabee Farms. That revelation came about an hour after the employee, Cristhian Bahena Rivera, was arraigned on a first-degree murder charge for the killing of Tibbetts. His bond was set at million and his next court hearing is scheduled for August 31.Tibbetts went missing last month after going out for an evening run in Brooklyn, Iowa, and her disappearance launched an extensive search in the region. On Tuesday, Rivera -- who confessed to following her as she ran on a country road -- led authorities to the field where a body believed to be hers was buried under corn stalks, officials said. 910
The nor'easter whipped New England with snow early Thursday, a day after it brought another round of blackouts, treacherous roads and canceled flights to the East Coast. The storm dumped snow in several states Wednesday, including New York, New Jersey and Pennsylvania. It started winding down as it shifted its focus to New England overnight, where it'll linger for a day, unleashing a messy mix of rain and snow.About 19 million people, from Connecticut to Maine, remained under winter storm warnings and watches after a deadly "bomb cyclone" hit the area last week. But this storm is less severe than the previous one on March 2, which left at least six people dead. Snow and rain remain a concern, along with the aftermath of fallen trees, knocked out power lines and slippery roads. Here's what to expect: Focus is on New England 845
The principal of Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School, where 17 people were killed in a February 14 school shooting, said students who walk out today will be punished.Principal Ty Thompson told the students during yesterday's announcements that if they leave campus they will face disciplinary action. A teacher told CNN that the disciplinary action will be an unexcused absence. But that isn't stopping the students: Most of the teachers said they expect a good number of the students to walk out of the classrooms, but they aren't so sure how many will leave campus. However, the student body isn't exactly unified on this walkout. While many of the most vocal students are promoting the walkout, some other students feel conflicted since the walkout marks the Columbine shooting anniversary. Columbine leaders have pushed back against a walkout, asking students to treat the day as a day of service and not just a day to walk out.At Stoneman Douglas, some of the students are planning to do acts of service on campus instead of actually walking out. 1064
