BOULDER, Colo. – A Boulder, Colorado, family says their son was stuck with a hypodermic needle while playing near a creek by the Park East Park. Now, the family is warning parents to have a talk with their children.Wade Green says his four-year-old son was on a play date with another kid when he found a needle. Green’s son picked up the needle and started playing with it. The nanny who was watching him asked the four-year-old what it was and he said it was a pH meter. It wasn’t until Green’s son made it home and showed the needle to his wife that someone realized what it was. The family lives near their pediatrician and immediately took their son to see him.“Examining him a little further, (the doctor) noticed two needle marks in his hand,” Green said. “When it happens to your own child, it’s just a heart wrenching.”So far, the four-year-old has taken two tests to see whether he has contracted a transmittable disease. He will have to undergo two more tests before being given the all-clear by doctors. This is not the only time people in the community have found needles laying around.“Two days before, a neighbor had told my wife that they had found a needle at the park east playground and they weren’t going to go there anymore because they didn’t feel like it was a safe place to take their kids,” Green said. By the time 2024 rolls around, we may be seeing brand new sports at the Summer Olympic Games.Some of the new sports include surfing, karate, skateboarding and breakdancing. A school in Washington, D.C. called The Lab is already training dancers in breakdancing to prepare them for Team USA.Competitive break dancer Evan Sletten has been a taking classes at The Lab for six years.“A lot of upper body strength goes into it,” Sletten describes of the sport.Sletten says he would describe it as an athletic dance. “Competitive breaking is very different in the sense that there’s rules,” explains The Lab owner Antonio Castillo. “There’s a point system. You have a referee. You have different criteria in place to make sure it’s a fair sport.”Castillo has considered breakdancing a sport for a long time, and he already uses an Olympic scoring model for his students.“We use a 10-point system and all of criteria is the definition of what the dance is, so you can’t argue against it because those are the elements that make up the dance,” Castillo says.Sletten says the point system helps with improvement.“It’s great because if you need to improve, you’re not just seeing win or lose,” he explains. “You’re seeing each category, every little thing that you did right that you did wrong.”In a way, this group of competitive break dancers has been gearing up for the gold for years already. BREVARD COUNTY, Fla. — A woman in Florida was flown to a trauma center Saturday after she was bitten by an alligator.Nicole Tillman, 26, was swimming in a pond in Brevard County, Florida, when it happened.Brevard County Fire Rescue says the woman suffered significant bite injuries, but they are non-life threatening.A contracted nuisance alligator trapper successfully removed the 8-foot 6-inch gator from the pond. The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission is investigating the incident.Serious injuries caused by alligators are rare in Florida.
