CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, S.C. — The body of an 11-month-old girl whose disappearance prompted an Amber Alert has been found dead in a diaper box, her mother is reportedly in custody. According to WBTV, the mother, 19-year-old Breanna Lewis, had initially told officials that she was walking to her mailbox carrying her daughter when a man violently stole the baby out of her arms. The baby, Harlee Lane Lewis, was found dead a few hours later.Chesterfield County Sheriff Jay Brooks told The Associated Press on Tuesday that the body was found inside a diaper box in a field about 1,000 yards behind a home in Chesterfield, South Carolina.Brooks says the Amber Alert was canceled “because we don’t think there was a kidnapping.” The mother was then taken into custody and is being questioned, along with other family members, according to WCIV. The mother has been charged with filing a false police report, according to WSOC. (KGTV) — A man drowned Wednesday after border officials say he tried to swim across an Imperial County canal and enter the U.S. illegally.The man, whose identity and nationality were not immediately known, was spotted swimming across the All-American Canal around 9 p.m. Wednesday along with two others, U.S. Customs and Border Protection said in a Friday news release.Border agents immediately apprehended two of the men when they made it across the canal, which runs parallel and just north of the U.S.-Mexico border. The third man, however, struggled to stay afloat, border officials say. CAMP PENDLETON (CNS) - A U.S. Marine was fatally injured in a tactical- vehicle accident at Camp Pendleton, the Marine Corps announced Monday. The serviceman was one of three members of the elite Marine Raider Regiment involved in the accident, which occurred during a training exercise on Saturday, according to Maj. Nicholas Mannweiler of U.S. Marine Corps Forces, Special Operations Command.The critically injured Marine was airlifted to a trauma center, where he was pronounced dead Sunday night, Mannweiler said.
