Alpha Project, though, is at capacity every night, with waiting lists of 50 to 200, depending on the weather."Someone doesn't show up for bed check and that bed's rolled up; our outreach team goes out at 9 o'clock down the street and people cue up. "I basically just laid there."It's different now. "This right here is hope, for a lot of people and the process is good for me; the doors are just opening," Clune said. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - There is new hope for women who were told they could never get pregnant. A local clinic is offering groundbreaking fertility procedures you won't find anywhere else. For 48-year-old Cherie Friesth, this Carmel Valley clinic is giving her hope. "This just gives you a little help and a boost towards that goal," said Friesth.She's already a mother of four and a grandmother of eight, but she wants one more. "This will make it nice that [my son] has someone to look out for and play with."She came all the way from Iowa for Ovarian Rejuvenation. Gen 5 Fertility helps women increase their chances of getting pregnant through Platelet Rich Plasma or PRP. Dr. Samuel Wood is giving them hope. Most of his patients are over the age of 42. "In most cases these women have gone to other fertility centers and have been told 'you have no chance, we’re not going to work with you'", said Wood. The procedure works by isolating platelets from the blood and injecting them back into the ovaries. It helps recruit stem cells that can turn into eggs. "I just keep smiling and thinking it's going to be worth it."Her doctor says her chances are pretty good. "She did not do well in terms of egg number, but it improved the quality of the egg so that we got an embryo that was actually normal in a woman who is 48 years old, and that’s extremely unusual," said Wood. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) – The Valley Fire has forced many East County residents to evacuate, but one homeowner said he and his family have decided to stay in their home and ride the situation out.Leo Prado told ABC 10News, “Where are we going to go? It’s not like we just have luggage and we can go into a hotel. We have animals here.”Prado said picking up and leaving his home in the Deerhorn Valley area, near Jamul, isn’t an easy task, especially with horses and dogs on his property.Prado and his family are staying put, as their area is only under a voluntary evacuation as of Tuesday afternoon.According to Prado, his property has not had power since the Valley Fire started on Saturday. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- The San Diego City Council has voted to tentatively approve a prohibition of electric scooters on the city’s boardwalks. The Council voted 5-4 Monday afternoon to approve the ban. The prohibition will include Mission Beach, Pacific Beach, Mission Bay Park Bayside Walk and the La Jolla Shores Boardwalk. Earlier this year, councilmembers voted for regulations on the dockless scooters. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- The San Diego Police Department has identified the officer involved in an East Village shooting over the weekend as Andres Ruiz. The department says Ruiz is assigned to the Canine Unit and has been with the department for more than 11 years. The incident started just before 10 p.m. on May 23 at an apartment complex on Park Boulevard and Market Street. Police were called to the complex following reports of a woman trowing objects from a window. When they arrived, officers found broken glass and furniture on the sidewalk below the unit. RELATED: Woman hurt in officer-involved shooting in East VillageAuthorities say the woman refused to listen and brandished a knife, continuing to throw objects from the window and refusing to come out of the building, prompting police to force their way into the building. After the woman locked herself into the bathroom, police used verbal direction, chemical agents, and a police canine in an effort to take the woman into custody. When officers made their way into the bathroom, the department says the woman grabbed and punched the canine and threatened officers with the knife. “One officer fearing that he was going to be struck or stabbed with a knife, fired at least one round striking the female,” said Capt. Rich Freedman of the San Diego Police Department.The woman was treated and taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries. No officers were injured, but some people were hit by objects that were thrown out of the window. The suspect has only been identified as a 26-year-old San Diego resident. 1593
