BEIJING, Aug. 26 (Xinhua) -- A senior Chinese legislator said Wednesday that China will promote social exchanges with Myanmar to boost bilateral ties.     "We attach importance to and support friendly exchanges and cooperation between social groups and organizations in China and Myanmar, which will contribute to the development of bilateral ties," said Zhou Tienong, vice chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress, in a meeting with a delegation from a government-supported organization from Myanmar.     Zhou, also president of the Chinese Association for International Understanding, briefed the eight-member delegation on China's political and economic situation, its measures in tackling the global downturn and pledged to boost economic and trade cooperation with the international community, including Myanmar. BEIJING, Aug. 28 (Xinhua) -- The China Economic and Social Council(CESC) wants to boost exchanges with Niger's Economic, Social and Cultural Council (CESOC), a senior Chinese official said Friday.     Wang Gang, chairman of the CESC and member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, made the remarks when he met with the chairman of the CESOC Amadou Cheiffou in Beijing.     Both councils grouped experts in social and economic development, Wang said, and could learn from each other, as they deepened cooperation.  Wang Gang (R), member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee,vice-chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference,and chairman of China Economic and Social Council, meets with Cheiffou Amadou, chairman of Niger's Economic, Social and Cultural Council, in Beijing, capital of China, on Aug. 28, 2009    Wang, also vice chairman of the National Committee of Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, said the two nations' relations had developed well since they resumed diplomatic ties 13years ago.     He also expressed appreciation to Niger's adherence to the one-China policy and its support on issues related to Taiwan and Tibet.     Cheiffou said the CESOC would continue to work to further its traditional relationship with China.     Cheiffou began the eight-day visit on Aug. 23. Beijing is the last leg of his tour, which has also taken in Shanghai and Guangzhou.

BEIJING, Sept. 8 (Xinhua) -- The Fourth Plenary Session of the 17th Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC) is to be held from Sept. 15 to 18 this year, according to a statement issued Tuesday after a meeting of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee.     The decision was made at Tuesday's meeting, presided over by Hu Jintao, general secretary of the CPC Central Committee.     Participants at Tuesday's meeting discussed a draft document on improving Party building which is to be submitted to the four-day plenary session for deliberation.     The CPC has to improve the Party building to cope with "major development, reform and adjustment in the world" and to better lead all ethnic groups to concentrate on construction and development, the statement said.     To sum up the Party's invaluable experience of strengthening self-building since the founding of the People's Republic of China 60 years ago, and enhance the Party building in the new situation, the CPC should stick to the following principles detailed in the statement:     -- The CPC should be strict with the Party members by conducting strict education, administration, monitoring and self-criticism.     The Party should also make redoubled efforts to improve the Party's work style, build a clean government and fight corruption to maintain its advanced and immaculate nature.     -- The CPC should focus on theological and ideological construction to enable the Party's theory and practice to keep pace with the time and be creative.     -- More efforts will be made to enhance the CPC's creativity, cohesiveness and fighting capacity to guarantee the Party to do a better job in governing and rejuvenating the country, and building socialism with Chinese characteristics.     -- The CPC should stick to scientific and democratic rule and rule by law to make it always a representative of the development requirements of China's advanced social productive forces, the progressive course of China's advanced culture, and the fundamental interests of the overwhelming majority of the Chinese people.     -- The CPC should meet the essential requirements of building the Party to serve the public interests and running the government for the benefit of the people.     -- The CPC should improve itself in an innovative way.

BEIJING, Aug. 11 (Xinhua) -- Prosecutors have approved the arrest of four employees of the Anglo-Australian mining giant Rio Tinto Ltd. on charges of trade secrets infringement and bribery, according to a statement of China's Supreme People's Procuratorate late Tuesday. Preliminary investigations have showed that the four employees, Stern Hu, Liu Caikui, Ge Minqiang and Wang Yong, had obtained commercial secrets of China's steel and iron industry through improper means, which had violated the country's Criminal Law, according to the statement.     Prosecution authorities also found evidence to prove that they were involved in commercial bribery. Four employees of the Anglo-Australian miner Rio Tinto Ltd. have been arrested over alleged stealing of China's state secrets, including Stern Hu, general manager of the company's Shanghai offic. The four people, including Hu, had been detained by China's security authorities Sunday evening    Investigations have also revealed that there were suspects in China's steel and iron enterprises who were providing commercial secrets for them.     The four were detained in Shanghai in early July on charges of stealing China's state secrets.          Stern Hu, an Australian citizen of Chinese origin, was general manager of the company's Shanghai office and was in charge of the iron ore business in China.     Hu was a long-standing employee of Rio Tinto and had lived in Shanghai for a number of years with his wife, who is also an Australian citizen.     The other three, who also worked in the Shanghai office, are Chinese employees of the company.
