They monitored the children's prescriptions for codeine and alternative opioids.Codeine, an opioid pain reliever, came under scrutiny due to its adverse effects on children. According to the FDA, it led to serious breathing troubles, including 24 deaths, in children from January 1969 to May 2015.In August 2012, the FDA launched an investigation into the safety of codeine use in children. CINCINNATI -- U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers intercepted a shipment containing nearly 6 pounds of liquid heroin packaged in shampoo bottles earlier this month.The package was listed as "massage oil," authorities said in a news release. It was shipped from Morelos, Mexico and was being sent to a home in the Bronx, New York when officers intercepted it at a cargo facility in Cincinnati on Oct. 11.The same day, officers also found four shipments of cocaine, each more than 4 pounds, being shipped from various Central American countries to people in West Virginia, Pennsylvania and New York, Customs and Border Protection said in a news release."These types of seizures exemplify our officers' dedication to the CBP mission of intercepting dangerous and illegal narcotics," Joshua Shorr, the Cincinnati port director, said. Congress has passed the biggest investment in national parks in decades.The House voted Wednesday to approve the Great American Outdoors Act, a sweeping conservation and public lands bill, which President Donald Trump has pledged to sign into law. She says this is the perfect time to make the investment, because Americans are looking to get outdoors more during the COVID-19 pandemic.The parks service has found the legislation will create 100,000 additional jobs. That's on top of the boost to businesses in surrounding communities that rely on visitors.Plus, the recreation industry as a whole supports 5.2 million jobs.“So, those are really important to sustain now more than ever, so this legislation during these times makes a lot of sense,” said Argust.The bill does not call for using taxpayer dollars. CORONADO, Calif. (KGTV) -- Coronado Lifeguards confirmed a shark sighting on Coronado Beach Tuesday afternoon. According to a message posted on Facebook by police, the 12-foot-long white shark was spotted just off the shore of in the North Beach area just before 2 p.m. Lifeguards posted warning signs shortly after the sighting to let beachgoers know about the sighting. Lifeguards chose not to close the beach because the shark was not seen "engaging with anyone in the water.""The lifeguard was out on a paddle board about 100 yards from the shoreline, just past the surf in 6 to 8 feet of water, just before 2 p.m. when he saw the shark appear next to him. It was larger than his 11-foot paddle board," the department said. (KGTV) -- Dozens of sailors are set to return to North Island Sunday morning following a months-long deployment.Six helicopters and 40 to 50 pilots, aircrew and maintainers from Helicopter Sea Combat Squadron 6 will arrive at the Naval Air Station North Island after a six-month deployment.The squadron is part of the San Diego-based Third Fleet and supports aircraft carrier operations with the Fifth Fleet in the Persian Gulf and Seventh Fleet in Japan.Also returning this week in the USS Theodore Roosevelt which will arrive Monday.The aircraft carrier departed in October and made port calls in the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, Singapore and the Philippines.   696
