(KGTV) -- North County residents are frustrated over a rise in the number of homeless people in their community and Oceanside’s police department is reaching out.A team is working to get homeless people help. The team works to build trust among their homeless clients in hopes the trust will lead to them accepting help.Their client Joel relapsed after nine months. He wants help but can’t get a prescription after losing his ID. They help the most vulnerable, those with serious mental illness and other substance abuse issues with barriers to getting care.RELATED: Spring Valley residents upset over homeless population at popular parkThe HOT team gets help from Interfaith Social Worker Curtis Torres, who goes out with officers every day. Thanks to recent city funding, a second social worker was hired to the team.A separate team works to tackle homeless encampments in the riverbed. They tried the plant-based burger in select restaurants in Canada last year."There are other plant-based burgers out there, but the McPlant delivers our iconic taste in a sink-your-teeth-in (and wipe-your-mouth) kind of sandwich," the fast-food chain said in the blog post. ORIENTAL, N.C. – A Navy veteran says his Chihuahua mix saved his life.Rudy Armstrong was on his houseboat in Oriental, North Carolina, when he suffered a stroke, according to CarolinaEast Health System.Luckily, Armstrong’s dog, Bubu, was there and sprang into action.“He and Bubu have a special bond and when Rudy couldn’t get to his phone to call for help, he looked his little friend in the eyes and said ‘I need help. Go get Kim,’” wrote the hospital in a Facebook post.Immediately, the hospital says Bubu ran off to get Kim, the area dockmaster, who called 911. They ultimately saved Armstrong’s life, with the help of paramedics and the staff at the hospital.On Aug. 7, the hospital says it was able to orchestrate a reunion between the veteran and “his best girl.” It was an emotional moment for everyone there. Armstrong, who has reportedly sailed all over the world and “has stories for days,” said he was very appreciative of the care he received at the hospital. 980
OCEANSIDE (CNS) - Two vehicles crashed Saturday on College Boulevard underneath state Route 78 in Oceanside, killing at least one person.The California Highway Patrol reported a blue Tesla and red sedan collided at 3:04 p.m., causing one of them to overturn and land on its roof on College.Medics and officers from the Oceanside Police Department were on scene trying to extract the two occupants of the overturned vehicle, the CHP said. Officers were shutting down traffic in the area.A San Diego County coroner was at the scene of the crash to investigate, the CHP said.No further information was immediately available. 629
